You have just entered room "Chat 29562092193224423491."
Vernjonal has entered the room.
EverGuard4 has entered the room.
Thematrian1: hah, 20 exactly
Vernjonal: ?
Vernjonal: Hehehe
Vernjonal: Good on ye'. By the way, I tested it again.
Thematrian1: which it?
Vernjonal: Bringing down Dumpshock
Thematrian1: and?
Vernjonal: I was henceforth unable to load it on either my work computer or my laptop, from two different locations with separate internet connections.
MilesMk1 has entered the room.
Vernjonal: They seem to have speedily restored it, but it was definitely inaccessible.
Thematrian1: I mean, I know it was up earlier; I saw the new FAQ debate
Thematrian1: ok, so you have a bug report to send
Vernjonal: Indeed I do.
Thematrian1: I'm coming around to your 'the FAQ is bullshit' line of thinking, by the by
Vernjonal: I don't like bad rulings, but they could at least be consistent with the rules where possible.
Vernjonal: Anything specific changing your mind?.
Thematrian1: the invisibility change. Entertainingly, it helps balance the spell, but is an exception to...well...everything
Vernjonal: Which one was that? I don't believe it's one of my commonly-used hates.
Thematrian1: well, it turns out that to make invisible an OR 8 item, you need a force 4 spell. This is unusual in that the invis's target is not the thing made invisible, but the things trying to view it
Thematrian1: as witness the fact that they get resistance tests
Thematrian1: thankfully, no one in either game has it so we don't need to decide whether to break with the FAQ.
Thematrian1: anyway
Vernjonal: Ah yes
Thematrian1: So: when we left the team, they were variously above and below the ground
Thematrian1: that is to say: below for Blake and Alex, above for Shojo and Alex
Vernjonal: *Is single-handedly variously above and below the ground*
Thematrian1: Oh, not single-handedly.
Thematrian1: the above-ground team was moving at 1/6 normal speed and being menaced by a giant face in the sky
Vernjonal: *Is poly-handedly variously above and below the ground*
Vernjonal: "Shojo! Get it and poke it with a stick!"
Thematrian1: the below-ground team had dispatched some zombies and found a whole bunch of nothing, including a spanish-speaking guy
MilesMk1: I prefer to think of him as a guy who doesn't speak English, but we can go with your description if you want.
Thematrian1: fair enough. He spoke Spanish to you guys.
Thematrian1: (as opposed to being a guy who speaks a bunch of non-English languages. You tried several, and none worked)
Vernjonal: He also didn't speak German or Navajo.
MilesMk1: Then ran away.
Thematrian1: indeed
EverGuard4: < amused by description
OnlineHost: Vernjonal rolled 5 6-sided dice: 6 4 4 3 6

Vernjonal: Eep, wrong client. What'd I get?
Thematrian1: 6 6 4 4 3
Vernjonal: (Damn feature-removal)
Umbrafer has entered the room.
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 5
Thematrian1: There's a man; your sensors missed him at first, as he emits no heat and is standing flush to the hanger that you're driving away from
Umbrafer:
Passive sensors.
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 7 6-sided dice: 1 3 2 4 5 5 5
Umbrafer:
Woo!
Thematrian1: Through the wind and rain, your mighty sensors pick him out. He's short, with black wrinkled skin. His mouth is open in a skull-splitting smile, enabling you to see his badly rotten teeth. He's looking upward, at the face.
Umbrafer:
Does he look familiar, or is he a new guy with bad teeth?
Thematrian1: heh
Thematrian1: he looks familiar
Umbrafer:
#Abort! Abort! Target is topside!#
Umbrafer:
When I get the chance, going for a sensor lock.
Thematrian1: Fair enough. Are you still moving away, or are you trying to swing around?
Umbrafer:
At this speed, it doesn't make much difference. Will it change anything meaningfully?
MilesMk1: #You sure?#
MilesMk1: *starts running for the elevator*
Umbrafer:
Rolling sensor lock:
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 5 6-sided dice: 2 1 3 3 5

Thematrian1: nope
Umbrafer:
Karma reroll.
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 5 6-sided dice: 2 4 5 2 3
Umbrafer:
#$%^
Umbrafer:
Again at +2?
Thematrian1: One sec.
Thematrian1: Meanwhile, Blake runs toward the elevator. Are the drones doing anything?
MilesMk1: Well, if the shield drone can keep up, I take it with me. Or just ride the damn thing back.
Thematrian1: you're faster than it is, I'm pretty sure
Umbrafer:
At this instant, the drones are holding position relative to Blake except insofar as this results in wall-collisions, etc.
Thematrian1: gotcha
Thematrian1: What's the van doing?
Umbrafer:
Van is holding course at this instant.
Thematrian1: retry lock
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 5 6-sided dice: 1 1 2 2 1
Umbrafer:
@#$%#@Q@$%@#%$@#$@%#@$
Thematrian1: you do not acquire sensor lock
Umbrafer:
(Incidentally, the shielddrone can go 25 MPT)
Thematrian1: (Q6 humans go 6x4 = 24, right?)
Umbrafer:
(x3)
Thematrian1: (And dwarves are x2?)
EverGuard4: yip
Thematrian1: I take it back; riding the shield-drone is an awesome plan.
MilesMk1: Ok, I ride the drone back to the elevator.
MilesMk1: Then go up, ASAP. #Where is he?#
Umbrafer:
#Against the wall of the hangar#
Thematrian1: You ride the elevator up
MilesMk1: #Inside or out?#
OnlineHost: EverGuard4 rolled 9 6-sided dice: 1 4 6 2 6 2 3 1 1
OnlineHost: EverGuard4 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 5

Thematrian1: oh Blake, interesting fact: the elevator wasn't on your floor
Umbrafer:
#Outside#
Umbrafer:
(Brb)
Thematrian1: you reach the aircraft hanger, Blake
MilesMk1: Ah... Where did it come from?
MilesMk1: Above, or below?
MilesMk1: #Give me an approximate distance from one of the corner, would ya?#
Thematrian1: you don't know; it just had to travel to your floor.
Thematrian1: FWIW, the elevator isn't marked for floors below your own
EverGuard4 has left the room.
MilesMk1: Oh, so there was a closed door preventing me from seeing the elevator cab move? For some reason, I was picturing it as a lot more industrial...
Umbrafer:
(Back)
MilesMk1: #Give me an approximate distance from one of the corners of the hangar, would ya?#
MilesMk1: Not that it matters greatly at this point.
Umbrafer:
*Gives, also starts wheeling the van around while trying not to give the impression that I've spotted the target*
Umbrafer:
The MMG is still extended, right?
Thematrian1: you never retracted it, so yeah
MilesMk1: What ways do I have of getting out of the hangar and to the guy?
EverGuard4 has entered the room.
Thematrian1: there's the main hanger door, which is closed. There's the small door you came in. There may be other doors.
Umbrafer:
(Wb)
MilesMk1: And how is he positioned in relation to the small door?
MilesMk1: Based on what Alex told me?
MilesMk1: Is he on the same wall as the door, around a corner from it?
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 3 2 4 6 1
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 4

Thematrian1: On the same wall, a short distance in from the corner
MilesMk1: So if I go out the door and turn, at least theoreticall I have LOS?
MilesMk1: theoretically
Thematrian1: yes
MilesMk1: #He still there? I feel reluctant to stick my head out, thinking of making a new exit right where he's standing...#
Umbrafer:
(He's using nonimproved Invisibility, isn't he...) #Still there. If you want I can put a big hole in him while you do so#
MilesMk1: *makes sure he has an incendiary grenade handy* #Ok, I'm going to grenade the wall about where he is... Feel free to join in.#
EverGuard4 has left the room.
MilesMk1: I'm assuming the hangar walls are relatively thin sheet metal?
Thematrian1: close enough, yeah
MilesMk1: *nukes the wall where he thinks the guy should be*
Umbrafer:
As soon as he gives the word, I'm going to put a six-round manual gunnery burst on the target.
MilesMk1: #Now#
Umbrafer:
What're the modifiers we're working with?
Thematrian1: well, you don't get lock, and you do get darkness and rain.
MilesMk1: I'm just guessing, basically... Not trying to hit the guy, just a spot x meters from the door.
Thematrian1: That's a spot, same as always
Umbrafer:
Full darkness or minimal light?
Thematrian1: minimal light and rain
Thematrian1: Blake has full darkness, but no rain
Thematrian1: and some truly mighty vision mods IIRC?
MilesMk1: Yeah.
MilesMk1: I think I get +2 for full darkness.
Umbrafer:
So I'm at +4 from the darkness, -2 from the tracers; is he a stationary target?
Thematrian1: yes
MilesMk1: Since we have yet to roll initiative, I think I'll use a lot of combat pool...
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 10 6-sided dice: 1 4 2 1 4 6 6 5 6 3
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 3 6-sided dice: 4 3 3

Thematrian1: (this is a surprise round. And how)
Umbrafer:
So -1 for that, and then -2 for Smartlink. +1 for Movement, IIRC.
Umbrafer:
For a net of 0. Short range?
Thematrian1: ::ponder:: What's medium for you?
Umbrafer:
80 meters and longer
Thematrian1: Medium
Thematrian1: (You've been moving slowly, but for a great many turns)
Umbrafer:
Mmk. Looking for 5s, then.
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 12 6-sided dice: 4 1 4 1 2 2 4 4 5 3 4 3

Thematrian1: ::sympathy with Jon::
Umbrafer:
........
Umbrafer:
To karma or not to karma?
Thematrian1: Wait, how many karma do you have?
Umbrafer:
2
Umbrafer:
I recorded only one used this round, earlier tonight; is that inaccuratE?
Umbrafer:
*e
Thematrian1: I thought you'd used another, but I don't see it in the logs. Karma if you want.
Umbrafer:
("This round"=this run)
Umbrafer:
Hm
MilesMk1: You only have 2 total Karma, or 2 remaining?
Umbrafer:
Going to leave be.
Umbrafer:
2 good karma total.
Umbrafer:
Bad karma.
MilesMk1: Bad Karma flaw???
Thematrian1: wait
Thematrian1: in the basement, resisting that bizarre accident for the shield drone
Umbrafer:
Ah
Thematrian1: you karma'd then
Umbrafer:
So either way
Umbrafer:
And we should have done a cursed karma roll earlier tonight, but I didn't get any successes to reroll
Thematrian1: ok, we have one success on the gunnery, and...Blake was looking for 4s, right?
Thematrian1: (Does smartlink apply to thrown grenades?)
Umbrafer:
(No, sadly, though there is smartball technology out there)
Umbrafer:
(Seems expensive to apply to every grenade, though)
MilesMk1: This was my underbarrel launcher
MilesMk1: I was just saying I wanted to have an incendiary handy to keep things clear.
MilesMk1: I failed. :-(
Umbrafer:
Ah
Thematrian1: (Well, we're still getting into the shadowrun swing, as it were)
MilesMk1: Some of my explosives were on the drone, which is why I made a point of mentioning I was going to have one handy.
Thematrian1: Aha. Ok, I'm going to roll some scatter now. 1d6 for the underbarrel launcher?
Umbrafer:
If he's got a Grenadelink
MilesMk1: I do.
OnlineHost: Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 2

MilesMk1: Don't some of the successes elminate scatter? *prays*
Umbrafer:
Yep, you can use them that way
Thematrian1: yep. The first one does. The other 5 stage damage, which are handy for busting through the wall
Thematrian1: base for an incendiary is what?
MilesMk1: This was a 15S HE greande.
MilesMk1: The incendiary is safely clipped to my webbing, so I can throw it at the guy when I see him. :-)
Thematrian1: aha
MilesMk1: If I see him.
MilesMk1: Then sprinkle him with thermite.
Umbrafer:
Immunity to Normal Weapons? Suck on this!
Thematrian1: ok, from Blake's perspective:
Thematrian1: The wall explodes outward, leaving a jagged hole where the metal used to be. There's no guy in evidence through the hole.
Thematrian1: From Alex's perspective:
Thematrian1: A tiny fraction of your burst might have hit him; at this range it's hard to be sure. A few moments later, the man is obscured by a hail of shrapnel, expanding outward from the hanger wall.
Thematrian1: You lose track of him after that; without a lock it's hard to know where he went, though you very much doubt that he was annihilated by the explosion.
Umbrafer:
Coming about, setting a course towards the hole.
Umbrafer:
Any actions from Big Face?
Thematrian1: The big face is gone.
Thematrian1: Blake?
MilesMk1: #I'm moving in for a look# *jogs towards the hole, looking and listening for any signs of the guy*
Thematrian1: Ok, roll perception
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 1 6 2 1 2
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4

MilesMk1: Did I use any Karma yet this run? I don't think I did...
Thematrian1: I didn't see any, when I was looking for Jon's
Umbrafer:
I don't believe you did. I've used most of the karma pool in this game.
Umbrafer:
Ironic, as IIRC I'm the only one with Cursed Karma
Thematrian1: So I'm going to say no. Karma Perception?
MilesMk1: Yes. How many do I re-roll?
Thematrian1: 5
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 5 6-sided dice: 3 1 6 3 3
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
Umbrafer:
Woo
MilesMk1: So two 10s.
Thematrian1: Very nice. At first you hear nothing over the rain (which is getting less intense, by the by)
Thematrian1: Then, as you learn to tune those sounds out, you hear the grass rustling a few meters outside the blast area. With that done, you spot it: something vaguely man-like, crawling slowly backward through the grass
Umbrafer:
He's got the shielddrone with him, right?
MilesMk1: #He's crawling in *that direction*#
MilesMk1: I at least brought it out of the elevator, yes.
Umbrafer:
If answer to above question=yes, I'm having it flood the indicated location with the infrared spotlight.
Thematrian1: Indeed. It can keep up with you, and did.
MilesMk1: Then, *throws the incendiary grenade at the figure*.
Umbrafer:
Incidentally, is my speed still impaired?
Thematrian1: Well, that makes things easier.
Thematrian1: You can see it easily, roll it.
MilesMk1: Did my combat pool refresh?
Thematrian1: Your van's speed jumped up to normal the very instant that Mr. Teeth got blasted
Umbrafer:
Score. Wheeling and heading back to nearer the location.
Thematrian1: Yes it did, Blake
MilesMk1: (I was worried this might be an impostor, but the fact the face disappeared and the van is back to normal makes me hopeful...)
MilesMk1: Ok. 4 CP dice (skill of only 4)
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 6 4 1 1 1 5 6 1

MilesMk1: Ugly.
OnlineHost: MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 1

Thematrian1: You've got two
Thematrian1: oh
Thematrian1: nevermind
Umbrafer:
Oh
Umbrafer:
Hehehe
Umbrafer:
Er?
Umbrafer:
Wait
MilesMk1: ?
Thematrian1: You have two sixes. but of course, you weren't rerolling sixes, you were rolling scatter
Umbrafer:
Never mind? I thought I understood, but I forgot the combat pool
Umbrafer:
Aaah
Thematrian1: Because sixes hit no matter what
MilesMk1: I was hoping...
Thematrian1: Mr. Teeth looks up as you throw. He smiles at you, then goes limp just as the grenade lands.
Thematrian1: How do these work again?
Umbrafer:
I don't like him smiling like that.
MilesMk1: One sec
MilesMk1: p. 40 CC
MilesMk1: Anything flammable withing 10 meters of the impact point may catch fire as per rules on p.98, but apply a +2 modifier...
MilesMk1: In which case, I'd have been hauling ass back as I threw. :-)
MilesMk1: Burns for 10 rounds, anything within 1 meter of it takes 8M damage from the heat.
MilesMk1: Reduced by 1/2 impact armor
Thematrian1: Mr. Teeth goes up like a torch. Not a huge surprise, you suppose, if he really was dead. The burning corpse does not move.
MilesMk1: I keep my grenade launcher trained on the carcass and watch it burn. #The fucker *smiled* at me.#
MilesMk1: #And he sort of went limp before the grenade hit.#
Thematrian1: Look. See. See corpse. See corpse roast. Roast, corpse, roast.
Umbrafer:
#Watch yourself. Trying to confirm kill.# Can I get a sensor reading off of the burning corpse?
Thematrian1: You can try. It's very hot, that's for sure.
MilesMk1: #Did he leave the body and go find a new one? If he could do that, why stay in this ugly piece of shit...?#
Umbrafer:
Trying.
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 5 6-sided dice: 5 4 6 3 4
OnlineHost: Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 5

Thematrian1: arhg, one sec
Umbrafer:
I don't think he's dead. Do you?
Umbrafer:
Perhaps more to the point, do you think he's inhabiting Adam's character?
MilesMk1: I don't know... It'd be anticlimactic, if he were... Mind you, I don't mind anticlimactic in SR. I do in D&D, I don't in SR. ;-)
MilesMk1: I doubt we killed him, but I do hope that maybe we made him run for it in some way or another...
Umbrafer:
In SR, one can only hope for anticlimactic
Thematrian1: ok, back
Thematrian1: And here, in the absence of Adam, I'm afraid we have to stop.
MilesMk1: Ah... Oh well.
Umbrafer:
While unfortunate, the splitting headache I have suggests that it may not be such a bad thing
Thematrian1: I know, I know. No choice though; we need him for this bit.
MilesMk1: Eh. I might actually get to sleep at a normal hour, something which I haven't done for a while.
Thematrian1: I've heard good things about it; I keep meaning to check it out myself, one of these nights
Umbrafer:
I checked it out night before last
Thematrian1: how was it?
MilesMk1: It's good, but when you try to stop...
Umbrafer:
It was neat, but not as neat as staying up 'till 4:00 watching Ghost in the Shell: Innocence when I need to be at work by 9:00 and my commute takes about an hour if I leave at 8:00
MilesMk1: It's better never to try it.
Umbrafer:
The morning thereafter, on the other hand, was more pleasant
MilesMk1: Ooh, how was that?
Umbrafer:
Second time I watched it. It is an amazing movie, though it loses quite a bit on a home-sized screen.
MilesMk1: I've been meaning to see that.
MilesMk1: All right... See you guys on Thursday, then?
Thematrian1: would you believe that I've never seen Ghost in the Shell of any kind?
Thematrian1: Thursday, I like it.
MilesMk1: The first one was quite good, but very overrated.
MilesMk1: Goodnight. *wave*
Umbrafer:
Indeed. It was also an excellent film, which makes the degree to which it has managed to be overrated quite astounding
Thematrian1: sleep well
MilesMk1: Yes, it was...
Umbrafer:
*Waves*
MilesMk1: Thursday.
MilesMk1 has left the room.
Umbrafer: But yes. You need to see all things Ghost in the Shell-related
Thematrian1: not this semester. Over the summer, maybe
Thematrian1: Operating Systems > me
Umbrafer:
Heh; what's it like?
Umbrafer:
Other than > you
Thematrian1: well, memory management with TLB's and all that are hard to do, especially in x86 assembler
Umbrafer:
Mmm, register starvation.
Thematrian1: it's not even that. It's not even the 4k of kernel stack space, though that does suck
Thematrian1: well, ok, it's kind of that
Thematrian1: having to manually save out edx, ecx, and whichever the other callee-save registers...gah
Umbrafer:
I do so hate x86.
Thematrian1: I comfort myself with the knowledge that implementing handler tables in a safe way would be even worse ;-)
Umbrafer:
Somehow, I've never found the knowledge that it could always be worse to be that comforting.
Thematrian1: yeah, it wasn't especially warm comfort
Umbrafer:
I also desperately need to get around to installing those spotlights in the van.
Thematrian1: that'd be handy, sure enough
Umbrafer:
Having a TN of 2 for that shot rather than 5 would have been mighty useful
Thematrian1: sooth
Umbrafer:
Curse those high-sig blighters.
Thematrian1: curse your peculiar inability to roll even one six in like 30 dice
Umbrafer:
Indeed
Umbrafer:
It was... quite the spectacular failure
Umbrafer:
I get this nagging feeling that there was something I'd been meaning to ask, but I've forgotten what it was.
Umbrafer:
Ah well. I'll toss you an email if I think of it. *Waves* Sleep well when you do.
Thematrian1: heh, you too
Umbrafer has left the room.
Vernjonal has left the room.
