Umbrafer (8:41:51 PM): When we last left our antiheroes…
CirclMastr (8:42:15 PM): We were perpetually in combat limbo.
Thematrian1 (8:42:26 PM): we were chasing our target and worrying over that covered area that leaks evil
Umbrafer (8:42:33 PM): You had been investigating the corner with the hole, no one was visible, and I think you were… yes. Pusher was going to punch through the ceiling.
MilesMk1 (8:43:13 PM): The floor, I thought/
MilesMk1 (8:43:21 PM): The ceiling already has a hole.
MilesMk1 (8:43:28 PM): Evening.
Thematrian1 (8:43:32 PM): specifically, a hole up to the covered-off area, I think
MilesMk1 (8:43:37 PM): Oh.
Umbrafer (8:43:39 PM): I thought he was planning to make another
CirclMastr (8:43:48 PM): I thought it was ceiling too
MilesMk1 (8:43:53 PM): Well, while he does that, I make sure there's no one in the cars.
Thematrian1 (8:44:03 PM): yeah, please
Thematrian1 (8:44:19 PM): we hadn't killed the mage yet, I don't think
Umbrafer (8:44:21 PM): The windows are tinted. Going to smash them or try to open the car some other way?
Umbrafer (8:44:38 PM): Given how long the giant ball of darkness persisted, it seems unlikely.
MilesMk1 (8:45:01 PM): Unless they look armored, I smash them and/or shoot them. I don't have time for picking locks.
Thematrian1 (8:45:05 PM): wait
CirclMastr (8:45:07 PM): SMASHY!
Thematrian1 (8:45:08 PM): we may want to steal them
MilesMk1 (8:45:17 PM): Mhmm...
MilesMk1 (8:45:31 PM): How many minutes does it take to open a car door, again?
Thematrian1 (8:45:54 PM): the doors are locked, to confirm?
MilesMk1 (8:45:59 PM): Well, first, regardless of what I do later, I 1.Look for signs of anti-theft devices and 2. Try the handles.
Umbrafer (8:46:25 PM): *Dig dig dig*
Umbrafer (8:46:29 PM): Let's get Electronics.
MilesMk1 (8:46:34 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 6 4 2 6 2 2 5 1
MilesMk1 (8:46:38 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 3
CirclMastr (8:46:47 PM): So we're not smashing anything?
MilesMk1 (8:46:57 PM): You're smashing the ceiling, I thought.
Thematrian1 (8:47:07 PM): yeah, go ahead and smash. I'm nearby
Thematrian1 (8:47:15 PM): ready to catch and/or flee
Umbrafer (8:47:18 PM): Where are you smashing, in relation to the corner?
Umbrafer (8:47:27 PM): The corner being where the thing behind the tarp is.
Umbrafer (8:47:34 PM): (One floor up)
Thematrian1 (8:47:55 PM): come to think of it, let's make that "right next to" rather than "right under"
Thematrian1 (8:48:03 PM): if whatever's in there falls, it could complicate our lives
CirclMastr (8:49:42 PM): And off I go now. Have fun all...
CirclMastr has left the chat room.
Umbrafer (8:49:58 PM): Glitch: the closest car shows nothing unusual. The two next, though, feel off.
Umbrafer (8:50:11 PM): The second one you aren't really sure how. The first one makes your hair stand on end when you get close.
Thematrian1 (8:50:24 PM): shock system
MilesMk1 (8:50:26 PM): Shock system?
Thematrian1 (8:50:31 PM): I'm thinking so
MilesMk1 (8:50:41 PM): Do I know of ways of disbling those?
MilesMk1 (8:50:45 PM): Disabling.
Umbrafer (8:51:58 PM): (*Grumble* Miss one week and all your notes vanish…)
MilesMk1 (8:52:11 PM): (Is Dave gone for the evening?)
MilesMk1 (8:52:55 PM): Also, for the second car, I'll get on my back and look at the undercarriage, assuming that gives me a better chance of spotting a security system.
MilesMk1 (8:53:40 PM): #I'm a little worried about those three people getting away. If they have a mage with them, Scavs might not be able to stop them. And there could always be a way out of here we missed. Do you have any way of tracking them, Gem?#
Umbrafer (8:53:53 PM): (Yes) You do know some ways of disabling a shock system. The quiet ways aren't the most reliable, the reliable ways aren't the most quiet, but it's doable.
MilesMk1 (8:54:07 PM): (Or was it two people, now? I seem to recall Gem said I got one of them.)
Thematrian1 (8:54:13 PM): #Only if we move now. These cars, that tarp, they're not going anyplace.#
Thematrian1 (8:54:19 PM): (Yeah, how many auras were left?)
MilesMk1 (8:54:58 PM): #Well, unless there's someone inside the damn cars, but those at least Scavengers can deal with.#
Umbrafer (8:55:20 PM): (You saw three on the way up.)
Umbrafer (8:55:30 PM): (You had initially seen three, then one died, then you saw another.)
MilesMk1 (8:55:41 PM): #Scavengers, can you send a bee or something down here, to keep watch on these cars?#
Umbrafer (8:56:03 PM): #Coming up#
Thematrian1 (8:56:13 PM): Change of plans: we chase them. Pusher smashes a hole near the corner, boosts us up, and then follows. We catch them on the next ramp; if we miss, we break through another level and do it agian.
Umbrafer (8:56:17 PM): Her transmission is unusually static-filled.
Thematrian1 (8:56:20 PM): sound like a plan?
MilesMk1 (8:56:33 PM): Yep.
MilesMk1 (8:56:43 PM): #You getting jammed?#
Umbrafer (8:57:11 PM): #Shouldn't be.#
Umbrafer (8:57:14 PM): Also static-filled.
MilesMk1 (8:57:36 PM): #Maybe it's all the concrete, you're coming through, but there's static.#
Thematrian1 (8:57:38 PM): (We're deep in an underground garage. Could that be the problem?)
MilesMk1 (8:57:56 PM): So, we proceed with the Plan.
MilesMk1 (8:58:02 PM): Right?
Thematrian1 (8:58:13 PM): I think it's a great plan, but don't we need Pusher?
Umbrafer (8:58:49 PM): It's your call if we proceed or break. The question really is "what is Pusher's role beyond breaking ceilings"
Thematrian1 (8:58:55 PM): combat
Umbrafer (8:59:00 PM): True enow.
Thematrian1 (8:59:13 PM): cement chunk to the head is our #1 weapon
Umbrafer (8:59:13 PM): Well, it's your call.
MilesMk1 (8:59:48 PM): Meh... I'm fine with it, we haven't played in ages, and techically we only have one player missing. :)
MilesMk1 (9:00:07 PM): Since the guy playing Scavs is gone for good, right?
Umbrafer (9:00:27 PM): For at least eight months.
Umbrafer (9:00:39 PM): So the next two or three runs ;)
Thematrian1 (9:00:45 PM): heh
MilesMk1 (9:01:39 PM): It's not like we were shoving Pusher out on the frontlines anyway... I think he can go on much as he did so far, breaking things and chucking concrete.
Umbrafer (9:02:23 PM): At the very least, there's no sense in breaking until we hit combat.
Thematrian1 (9:02:52 PM): ok, fair enough. I step ten feet away from the corner diagonally, point at the ceiling, and ask Pusher to make me a hole there
Thematrian1 (9:02:56 PM): then I get out of the way
Umbrafer (9:03:41 PM): He grunts, looks up for a few seconds, looks down, looks up again.
Umbrafer (9:03:45 PM): He draws his fist back.
Umbrafer (9:04:06 PM): Umbrafer rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 3 2 4 6 5
Umbrafer (9:04:08 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
Umbrafer (9:04:32 PM): He growls and rubs his eyes to get the large chunks of ceiling out of them.
Umbrafer (9:05:02 PM): There's also some of what looks like nesting material mixed in.
Thematrian1 (9:05:12 PM): ...ok then
Umbrafer (9:05:25 PM): After a few seconds, he punches twice more.
Umbrafer (9:05:39 PM): After that, there's a decent-sized hole to the next floor.
MilesMk1 (9:06:09 PM): I ask him to boost me through.
Thematrian1 (9:06:26 PM): ditto
Umbrafer (9:06:34 PM): He tosses you both up, perhaps less than gracefully.
Thematrian1 (9:06:50 PM): "oof"
MilesMk1 (9:07:10 PM): *ninja*
MilesMk1 (9:07:38 PM): I jump out of the hole, and look for enemies while heading for cover.
Umbrafer (9:08:14 PM): Perception. Stealth also.
Thematrian1 (9:08:18 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 1 6 4 6 6 5
Thematrian1 (9:08:22 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 3 6-sided dice: 5 5 6
Thematrian1 (9:08:25 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
Thematrian1 (9:08:33 PM): that'd be 15 11 11 5 4
Umbrafer (9:08:36 PM): (Not that punching through the floor was at all stealthy, but at least someone might miss that there are people there now.)
Thematrian1 (9:08:42 PM): Stealth:
Thematrian1 (9:08:44 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 4 6-sided dice: 5 1 1 4
Thematrian1 (9:08:48 PM): that's 9 after mods
MilesMk1 (9:10:21 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 2 5 5 4 6 2
MilesMk1 (9:10:24 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
MilesMk1 (9:10:32 PM): That was Perception.
MilesMk1 (9:10:34 PM): Stealth.
MilesMk1 (9:10:39 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 3 4 3 3 1
MilesMk1 (9:10:40 PM): Bah.
MilesMk1 (9:10:46 PM): 9, with the spirit mods.
Umbrafer (9:10:47 PM): Umbrafer rolled 15 6-sided dice: 2 6 1 1 4 1 1 2 5 5 2 1 4 3 2
Umbrafer (9:10:50 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
Umbrafer (9:12:40 PM): Gem sees two astral forms heading for the ramp up.
Thematrian1 (9:12:51 PM): #Two heading up#
Thematrian1 (9:12:58 PM): Is either magically adept?
MilesMk1 (9:13:20 PM): Do I see or hear anyone? (I do have the spatial recognizer)
Umbrafer (9:13:47 PM): They're very close. There seems to be a larger astral form appearing around them. Going to Assense? Neither of them is astrally active.
Umbrafer (9:14:10 PM): Glitch sees one person very near the ramp.
MilesMk1 (9:14:17 PM): How far from me?
Thematrian1 (9:14:26 PM): wait, how close is very close?
Thematrian1 (9:14:44 PM): #They're summoning. Take them out.#
Thematrian1 (9:14:55 PM): wait, stirke that last
Umbrafer (9:15:01 PM): Very close to the ramp, I should say. Within about five meters.
Thematrian1 (9:15:16 PM): the larger astral form: spirit or spell?
Umbrafer (9:15:27 PM): The second form is more like ten meters away. They're about fifty meters from you.
MilesMk1 (9:15:38 PM): Oh, so they're not 5 meters away.
MilesMk1 (9:15:47 PM): Ok, I shoot the fuckers.
Umbrafer (9:15:52 PM): Hopefully not a spirit. It's very large.
MilesMk1 (9:15:57 PM): No vision mods to save you now...
Umbrafer (9:16:04 PM): Initiative.
MilesMk1 (9:16:08 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 3
Umbrafer (9:16:12 PM): Umbrafer rolled 4 6-sided dice: 5 6 2 6
Thematrian1 (9:16:12 PM): Reaction for surprise, first?
MilesMk1 (9:16:12 PM): Fucking...
Umbrafer (9:16:17 PM): None.l
MilesMk1 (9:16:18 PM): 9 for me.
Umbrafer (9:16:20 PM): *-l
Thematrian1 (9:16:25 PM): bah
Umbrafer (9:16:28 PM): Busting through the floor was very far from quiet.
Thematrian1 (9:16:28 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
Thematrian1 (9:16:33 PM): fair enough
Thematrian1 (9:16:34 PM): 7
MilesMk1 (9:16:40 PM): But probably quite unexpected. :P
Umbrafer (9:16:42 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 3
Umbrafer (9:16:49 PM): (That it was)
MilesMk1 (9:17:27 PM): (This might end up being our trademark. We are no longer bound by walls, we just follow the most direct path.)
Umbrafer (9:17:38 PM): 9 and 7?
MilesMk1 (9:17:43 PM): Yeah...
Thematrian1 (9:17:44 PM): (We can be Team Shortest Path)
Umbrafer (9:17:47 PM): Umbrafer rolled 12 6-sided dice: 2 5 4 4 6 4 4 5 3 5 2 6
Thematrian1 (9:17:56 PM): (Our enemies can call us Team Shortest Bus)
Thematrian1 (9:17:59 PM): (It'll be great)
Umbrafer (9:18:10 PM): Roll Intelligence.
Umbrafer (9:18:12 PM): Umbrafer rolled 8 6-sided dice: 3 2 5 4 2 6 3 3
Umbrafer (9:18:16 PM): Wait, no
Thematrian1 (9:18:17 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 4 4 3 5 4
Umbrafer (9:18:23 PM): Manipulation, not illusion. My mistake.
Thematrian1 (9:18:28 PM): good
Thematrian1 (9:18:39 PM): 'cause that roll is no good whatsoever against magic
Umbrafer (9:18:57 PM): A large area around the ramp goes completely dark.
Thematrian1 (9:19:09 PM): ok, now someone's perceiving
Thematrian1 (9:19:10 PM): who?
Umbrafer (9:19:16 PM): Umbrafer rolled 5 6-sided dice: 4 3 6 6 2
Umbrafer (9:19:30 PM): No one.
Thematrian1 (9:19:46 PM): So...neither of the two people I saw cast this spell?
Umbrafer (9:19:56 PM): You don't need to be astrally perceiving to cast a spell
Thematrian1 (9:20:04 PM): argh
Umbrafer (9:20:05 PM): But it could have been cast from the ramp
Thematrian1 (9:20:07 PM): s/perceiving/active/g
MilesMk1 (9:20:44 PM): Crap... Whose turn is it?
Umbrafer (9:20:51 PM): Glitch's.
MilesMk1 (9:21:28 PM): Ok... I aim for one round, then lob a grenade where I used to see them.
MilesMk1 (9:21:41 PM): I mean, I aim for one action.
MilesMk1 (9:22:22 PM): Launch Weapons:
MilesMk1 (9:22:26 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 3 1 2 6 2 2 3 6
Umbrafer (9:22:28 PM): *Nods* That'll help you get the point you've chosen, but not necessarily the point they're at. Doing it?
Thematrian1 (9:22:49 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 3 6 6 5 1
Thematrian1 (9:22:52 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 1
MilesMk1 (9:22:52 PM): Well, they could have moved... Let's say I adjust my aim 5 meters up the ramp, then.
Thematrian1 (9:22:55 PM): 7 7 5
MilesMk1 (9:23:00 PM): Or is too late, now that I rolled?
MilesMk1 (9:23:16 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 3
Umbrafer (9:23:29 PM): Not too late, you don't get any new info from that :) but for reference, the up ramp is on the far side (so anyone actually on the ramp is hidden from you)
MilesMk1 (9:23:50 PM): Wait, what? Didn't I see them at the edge of the ramp?
Umbrafer (9:24:14 PM): Going around the corner onto the ramp. Why is it I can never keep my descriptions straight?
MilesMk1 (9:24:14 PM): Oh, this is the ramp to the level we just climbed up from?
MilesMk1 (9:24:28 PM): We sort of cut them off?
Umbrafer (9:24:58 PM): Other way around. This is the half of the garage facing the ramp up from the level below. They're going up to the level above, which is on the other half.
Umbrafer (9:25:09 PM): (Should I draw a picture? It might help everyone.)
MilesMk1 (9:25:17 PM): And I can't see that ramp from where I am?
Thematrian1 (9:25:19 PM): (This is the one thing I hate about online gaming)
MilesMk1 (9:25:32 PM): Or rather, I can only see its base, and then it curves up and out of sight?
Umbrafer (9:25:57 PM): You can't see it at all, but they were going around the corner to it, so you could see them.
MilesMk1 (9:26:23 PM): Whatever, I made the rolls, so lets just say I fire it at the point that represents my best guess as to where they would be.
MilesMk1 (9:26:30 PM): Scatter...
MilesMk1 (9:26:33 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
Umbrafer (9:28:47 PM): *Nods*
Umbrafer (9:29:01 PM): *Blam!*
Umbrafer (9:29:11 PM): Umbrafer rolled 10 6-sided dice: 2 5 4 2 4 3 1 6 3 6
Umbrafer (9:29:14 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 4
Umbrafer (9:29:20 PM): Umbrafer rolled 12 6-sided dice: 3 3 3 3 2 3 5 4 5 6 1 2
Umbrafer (9:29:24 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
Umbrafer (9:30:52 PM): Gem's turn.
MilesMk1 (9:31:06 PM): No inspiring screams?
Thematrian1 (9:31:10 PM): the auras are still there?
Thematrian1 (9:32:36 PM): well, aura
Thematrian1 (9:32:42 PM): the other is around the corner now, I guess
Umbrafer (9:33:05 PM): (A bad representation of the two lower levels: http://www.sotsw.net/stuff/Parkinggarage.png )
Umbrafer (9:33:16 PM): (Note that it's so bad that the lowest level is wrong.)
Umbrafer (9:33:27 PM): (There's no path down at the lowest level.)
Thematrian1 (9:33:34 PM): (and there's a hole now
Umbrafer (9:33:36 PM): (On this map, you'd be at the lower left.)
Umbrafer (9:33:39 PM): (That too.)
MilesMk1 (9:34:37 PM): (Ah, ok.)
Umbrafer (9:35:06 PM): (Arrows point up ramps, in case that wasn't obvious)
Thematrian1 (9:35:40 PM): ok. I'll stay against the wall and walk toward them. As I do, I point to the mage and command my F4 Great Form city spirit to "Kill him!"
Umbrafer (9:36:36 PM): *Clunk clunk clunk*
MilesMk1 (9:37:04 PM): Finally, we have one of our spirits killing one of *them*.
Umbrafer (9:37:23 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
Umbrafer (9:37:53 PM): It flies off towards the target at a prodigious rate.
Thematrian1 (9:38:15 PM): and if it goes down, I can easily make more
Umbrafer (9:38:16 PM): No one here has a second pass…
Umbrafer (9:38:20 PM): Umbrafer rolled 6 6-sided dice: 1 4 6 2 1 4
MilesMk1 (9:38:21 PM): Rub it in.
Umbrafer (9:38:23 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 6
Umbrafer (9:38:26 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 2
Umbrafer (9:38:55 PM): Amazingly enough, Pusher actually almost manages to bean someone.
Umbrafer (9:39:27 PM): In the next pass, the maybe-mage's aura vanishes around the corner. Your spirit flies through the wall in pursuit.
Thematrian1 (9:39:52 PM): right, I start running back. #Pusher, make another hole in the ceiling!#
Umbrafer (9:40:01 PM): Umbrafer rolled 8 6-sided dice: 4 1 1 5 5 1 4 4
Umbrafer (9:40:05 PM): Umbrafer rolled 4 6-sided dice: 6 6 4 2
Umbrafer (9:40:09 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 1
Umbrafer (9:40:19 PM): Rather, it starts flying through the wall. When it gets partway through, it shrieks and disintegrates.
MilesMk1 (9:40:28 PM): ...
Umbrafer (9:40:30 PM): The darkness, however, vanishes as well.
MilesMk1 (9:40:38 PM): Do I see anyone?
MilesMk1 (9:40:45 PM): *crosses fingers*
Umbrafer (9:40:49 PM): Perception.
Thematrian1 (9:40:52 PM): only force four...
MilesMk1 (9:40:53 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 6 5 3 6 4
MilesMk1 (9:40:57 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 3
MilesMk1 (9:41:01 PM): Hah-ha!
Umbrafer (9:41:10 PM): No one.
Thematrian1 (9:41:11 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 3 6 4 5 1
Thematrian1 (9:41:13 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 1
MilesMk1 (9:41:15 PM): (Of course, I always roll this well only to be told that... Yeah, that.)
Thematrian1 (9:41:29 PM): #They're headed up#
MilesMk1 (9:41:33 PM): I wait for Pusher to make his hole, then climb over him in my hurry to get up.
Thematrian1 (9:41:45 PM): Once I get there, I get a boost and up I go.
Umbrafer (9:41:50 PM): Pusher bashes some ceiling.
Umbrafer (9:41:55 PM): Umbrafer rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 3 3 3 1 1
Umbrafer (9:42:03 PM): *Tunk*
Umbrafer (9:42:05 PM): "Ow."
Umbrafer (9:42:20 PM): It takes him a few extra punches, but he gets through.
Umbrafer (9:42:46 PM): Umbrafer rolled 12 6-sided dice: 3 6 4 5 4 4 2 3 3 5 3 6
MilesMk1 (9:42:55 PM): #Scavengers, they're getting close to the surface.#
Umbrafer (9:42:59 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 5
Umbrafer (9:43:32 PM): Umbrafer rolled 8 6-sided dice: 4 4 5 1 2 6 2 6
Umbrafer (9:43:43 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 6
Umbrafer (9:43:46 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
Umbrafer (9:43:54 PM): Getting boosted up as per last time?
Thematrian1 (9:44:22 PM): yeah. Glitch first this time, though; I'm not close enough
MilesMk1 (9:44:23 PM): Sure.
Umbrafer (9:44:26 PM): #[…]'m ready#
Umbrafer (9:44:30 PM): Even more static.
Umbrafer (9:44:39 PM): *Toss*
Thematrian1 (9:44:55 PM): #Someone's jamming. Good thing we have encryption...#
Umbrafer (9:45:31 PM): Perception.
Thematrian1 (9:46:04 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 1 4 3 5 2
Thematrian1 (9:46:08 PM): 5 4 3 3 2 1
Thematrian1 (9:46:18 PM): and I'm still perceiving astrally, natch
Umbrafer (9:47:10 PM): *Toss* You see two people supporting a third limping towards the exit with all his might. There's a large patch of vague dimness around them.
Thematrian1 (9:47:23 PM): how far away?
Umbrafer (9:48:03 PM): Only about thirty-five meters. They came towards you horizontally when they went up the ramp.
Thematrian1 (9:48:43 PM): still too far...
Thematrian1 (9:48:50 PM): actually
MilesMk1 (9:48:58 PM): Hmm... Can I fire?
Thematrian1 (9:49:04 PM): into init again?
Umbrafer (9:49:17 PM): Yes.
Umbrafer (9:49:22 PM): If you so choose.
MilesMk1 (9:49:26 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 2
Thematrian1 (9:49:34 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 5
MilesMk1 (9:49:35 PM): 12. Finally.
Umbrafer (9:49:36 PM): Umbrafer rolled 4 6-sided dice: 4 2 4 2
Thematrian1 (9:49:36 PM): 11
Umbrafer (9:49:43 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 3
Umbrafer (9:49:46 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 1
Thematrian1 (9:50:47 PM): #Beware. Spirit lurking#
MilesMk1 (9:51:12 PM): #Ok.#
MilesMk1 (9:51:20 PM): All right, I try to take them out.
Umbrafer (9:51:28 PM): What was Glitch's perception roll?
Umbrafer (9:51:31 PM): Umbrafer rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
MilesMk1 (9:51:33 PM): Oh.
MilesMk1 (9:51:41 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 1 6 5 2 2
MilesMk1 (9:51:44 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 5
Umbrafer (9:52:15 PM): The guy on your left (they're facing away from you) looks like the guy you were originally trying to tail.
Umbrafer (9:53:38 PM): Glitch's action.
MilesMk1 (9:56:02 PM): None of them look like the guy we're supposed to kill? Or at least, I can't tell?
MilesMk1 (9:56:10 PM): Oh well, I fire a grenade at them.
MilesMk1 (9:56:29 PM): The dark crap is mostly gone, yes?
MilesMk1 (9:56:35 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 4 5 4 2 1 6 1 6
Thematrian1 (9:56:38 PM): Jon: can I simultaneously hand Pusher my grenade and assense the spirit?
MilesMk1 (9:56:43 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 3 4
MilesMk1 (9:57:01 PM): ...what happens to spirits if you kill the summoner?
Umbrafer (9:59:35 PM): (Sorry. Yes, you can, and what happens is they go free with varying results.)
Umbrafer (9:59:43 PM): (Glitch may or may not know that)
Thematrian1 (9:59:49 PM): (Ask Gem; she'd know)
Umbrafer (10:00:06 PM): Roll it
Thematrian1 (10:00:27 PM): Assensing:
Thematrian1 (10:00:29 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 6 6 3 4 5 3
Thematrian1 (10:00:34 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 1
Thematrian1 (10:00:42 PM): 4 successes, unless there are mods
Umbrafer (10:01:24 PM): (Holy god, someone destroyed my GM's Screen)
MilesMk1 (10:02:07 PM): Oh, right... Scatter.
MilesMk1 (10:02:15 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
MilesMk1 (10:02:19 PM): (Literally?)
Umbrafer (10:02:26 PM): It is indeed mostly gone. You've got a +2 mod.
Umbrafer (10:02:47 PM): (Not literally. I figure the font information must have gotten whacked, though, because it looks like the text all turned into Zapf Dingbats)
MilesMk1 (10:02:54 PM): Which is cancelled by the grenade link.
MilesMk1 (10:03:10 PM): (Ah. I thought you mean a real GM screen. ;))
MilesMk1 (10:03:16 PM): (I actually have one for SR.)
Umbrafer (10:03:19 PM): (I've got it somewhere)
MilesMk1 (10:03:22 PM): (Never used it.)
MilesMk1 (10:03:50 PM): So if I was shooting at the ground where they are, I need 4's?
Umbrafer (10:04:20 PM): Yep
Thematrian1 (10:05:03 PM): #It's a big spirit#
MilesMk1 (10:05:09 PM): 4 successes, then.
MilesMk1 (10:05:30 PM): #So, what happens when the guy who summoned it dies...?#
Umbrafer (10:05:47 PM): *Blam*
Umbrafer (10:05:54 PM): That should be a direct hit. What kind of grenade?
Thematrian1 (10:06:06 PM): #It goes Free, and can do whatever it wants.#
MilesMk1 (10:06:07 PM): Uh... IPE offensive.
Umbrafer (10:06:16 PM): That's 15S on all of them.
Umbrafer (10:06:18 PM): Umbrafer rolled 7 6-sided dice: 1 6 4 4 5 5 1
Umbrafer (10:06:22 PM): Umbrafer rolled 7 6-sided dice: 3 2 2 6 6 6 6
Umbrafer (10:06:25 PM): Umbrafer rolled 7 6-sided dice: 5 5 1 5 6 4 2
Umbrafer (10:06:36 PM): Make that 15D on all. I hope you weren't planning on questioning them…
Umbrafer (10:07:03 PM): Umbrafer rolled 14 6-sided dice: 6 1 4 6 3 2 5 5 2 5 2 5 3 3
Thematrian1 (10:07:05 PM): hey, that won't kill them instantly
Umbrafer (10:07:08 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 1
Umbrafer (10:07:23 PM): Umbrafer rolled 13 6-sided dice: 2 3 2 2 6 2 3 4 1 4 1 6 6
Umbrafer (10:07:26 PM): Umbrafer rolled 3 6-sided dice: 5 3 4
Umbrafer (10:07:33 PM): Umbrafer rolled 13 6-sided dice: 2 1 3 5 1 6 5 5 4 1 1 6 2
Umbrafer (10:07:35 PM): Er
Umbrafer (10:07:43 PM): Umbrafer rolled 11 6-sided dice: 3 1 1 1 4 5 1 5 5 4 1
Umbrafer (10:07:52 PM): *BLAM*
Umbrafer (10:08:32 PM): The guy in the middle is missing some legs. The guy on the left is only missing one leg. The guy on the right is getting reacquainted with what he had for lunch, and not because he vomited it up, either.
MilesMk1 (10:08:49 PM): #Ew...#
Thematrian1 (10:09:01 PM): Auras?
Umbrafer (10:09:04 PM): The elemental takes its free action and attacks Gem.
Umbrafer (10:09:07 PM): Sorry
Umbrafer (10:09:10 PM): Held action, not free
MilesMk1 (10:09:28 PM): You notice he's not sorry he *attacks* you. GMs.
Umbrafer (10:09:29 PM): Umbrafer rolled 9 6-sided dice: 5 4 1 5 5 6 5 6 1
Umbrafer (10:09:39 PM): Umbrafer rolled 2 6-sided dice: 1 3
Thematrian1 (10:10:04 PM): "Ak! Pusher! Help!"
MilesMk1 (10:10:05 PM): "Pusher, kill that damn thing!"
Thematrian1 (10:10:15 PM): (Thank God I at least had Unarmed slotted)
Thematrian1 (10:10:24 PM): (Defaulting to my strength of 1 is a recipe for disaster)
Thematrian1 (10:10:28 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 2 4 3 5 5 5
Thematrian1 (10:10:31 PM): 4 successes
MilesMk1 (10:10:32 PM): Hey, not bad.
Umbrafer (10:10:34 PM): (Let me check on that)
Thematrian1 (10:11:00 PM): (Pretty sure I had Unarmed and Throwing. I gave up on Pistols pretty early...)
Thematrian1 (10:11:21 PM): 3 successes over me...could be worse
Thematrian1 (10:11:39 PM): (Or, I could have done the willpower attack thing, come to think of it. Works out even I guess)
MilesMk1 (10:12:04 PM): (I don't think you can fight back using Willpower, only attack on your round.)
MilesMk1 (10:12:19 PM): (If you could, Blake would have several fewer holes in his hide.)
MilesMk1 (10:12:27 PM): (Care to revise that ruling? ;P)
Umbrafer (10:12:40 PM): (You can't fight with Willpower anyway, it isn't Materialized. It's attacking you in Astral Combat)
Thematrian1 (10:12:47 PM): (Oh, right)
Umbrafer (10:13:05 PM): Resist 8S Stun.
Thematrian1 (10:13:06 PM): (So I'd've been Defaulting to Willpower. The suck)
MilesMk1 (10:13:29 PM): (Can it do that at any time, or only when you're perceiving astrally? I mean, you're not dual natured, right?)
Thematrian1 (10:13:41 PM): (Only when I'm perceiving. I'm about to stop, believe me)
MilesMk1 (10:13:46 PM): (Ah. Good.)
Umbrafer (10:13:49 PM): (You can use Unarmed when you're perceiving, just not when you're Projecting)
Thematrian1 (10:13:51 PM): armor doesn't work; I throw my 8 pool dice in with...Willpower, right?
Umbrafer (10:13:58 PM): Correct.
Thematrian1 (10:14:00 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 14 6-sided dice: 1 4 3 5 4 4 6 6 3 6 4 1 4 5
Thematrian1 (10:14:03 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 3 6-sided dice: 1 6 5
MilesMk1 (10:14:07 PM): That's not so bad.
Thematrian1 (10:14:08 PM): and staged to M
Thematrian1 (10:14:15 PM): "Ugh"
Umbrafer (10:14:22 PM): Except he was 3 over you, so that means it got staged back to S
MilesMk1 (10:14:29 PM): Karma?
Umbrafer (10:14:33 PM): If you want
Thematrian1 (10:14:35 PM): no
MilesMk1 (10:14:41 PM): True, it's just stun.
Thematrian1 (10:14:42 PM): I'm not unconscious, that's all that matters
Umbrafer (10:14:43 PM): Wait
Umbrafer (10:14:50 PM): This may change your decision:
Umbrafer (10:15:00 PM): It's Physical. There's no such thing as Stun on the Astral.
MilesMk1 (10:15:15 PM): Well, I'm really good with First Aid, but...
Thematrian1 (10:15:20 PM): wuh oh
Umbrafer (10:15:21 PM): (Water elementals are significantly scarier on the Astral)
Thematrian1 (10:15:38 PM): ok, question: since I'm perceiving, how many auras are left over there?
Thematrian1 (10:15:47 PM): I want to get some good out of this, before I get shredded...
Umbrafer (10:16:00 PM): Perception to see this while the Water Elemental is blending you lightly
Thematrian1 (10:16:09 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 1 4 6 3 4 3
Thematrian1 (10:16:11 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
Umbrafer (10:16:35 PM): Two… wait, just one.
Umbrafer (10:16:46 PM): One of them made the shift while you were getting beaten up.
Thematrian1 (10:16:54 PM): glee
MilesMk1 (10:17:13 PM): Don't you find actually seeing someone's vital force fade away vaguel depressing?
MilesMk1 (10:17:19 PM): vaguely
Thematrian1 (10:17:22 PM): Only when I'm not fighting for my life
MilesMk1 (10:17:30 PM): Mhmm... True.
Thematrian1 (10:17:39 PM): I will not Karma. I have Cursed Karma; if it goes wrong, I'm probably at D
MilesMk1 (10:18:00 PM): Fair enough... Unless I roll like crap, I can have you back to an M wound in a bit.
Thematrian1 (10:18:06 PM): much appreciated
Thematrian1 (10:18:18 PM): who's up?
Umbrafer (10:18:37 PM): Next up is Gem.
MilesMk1 (10:18:46 PM): I bet I know what she does first.
Thematrian1 (10:18:46 PM): Actually, shutting down astral perception is a free action, so I...hah, that works
Umbrafer (10:18:49 PM): Despite the catastrophic drop in her initiative.
Thematrian1 (10:19:05 PM): Gem does a little dance, by which I mean turns off her astral perception right the frag now
Thematrian1 (10:19:55 PM): and then...hm. Stays where she is. If it materializes, I want to be able to help you guys
Umbrafer (10:20:36 PM): Count… count… count… Glitch.
MilesMk1 (10:22:08 PM): Mhmm... If I can see Gem has been hurt, I run over to her, and ready an action to Shock Glove any spirits that get near us.
Umbrafer (10:22:40 PM): That's your second action?
Umbrafer (10:22:54 PM): (Holding the action)
MilesMk1 (10:23:01 PM): Uh... Yeah.
MilesMk1 (10:23:15 PM): Assuming the three guys are as badly off as it seemed.
Umbrafer (10:23:23 PM): Ok. A large form of what looks like murky water appears out of the air.
Thematrian1 (10:23:31 PM): where's Pusher in all of this?
Umbrafer (10:23:33 PM): It does so not next to you, but over the three.
Umbrafer (10:23:40 PM): He's climbing his way up out of the hole.
Umbrafer (10:23:59 PM): The large form gathers up the remains of the person in the middle and starts floating away.
Thematrian1 (10:24:24 PM): was that the mage?
MilesMk1 (10:24:27 PM): Damn it... Let's hope, if it gets away, that he left some CNS behind...
MilesMk1 (10:24:36 PM): Can I verify that was NOT our target?
MilesMk1 (10:25:19 PM): If not, my next action will be to put two grenades in the elemental.
Umbrafer (10:25:42 PM): It was the person you guessed was the mage.
Thematrian1 (10:25:53 PM): #It's the mage, I think...#
Thematrian1 (10:25:59 PM): I stagger over to the bodies.
Umbrafer (10:26:04 PM): Oh, yeah, the dimness vanished after Glitch's grenades went off.
Thematrian1 (10:26:15 PM): not quickly, letting the other two stay with me
Umbrafer (10:26:27 PM): (And no, it is not your target, not unless he's had major surgery. Different body shape.)
Umbrafer (10:27:03 PM): The guy on the left is dead, though still warm. He's the guy you identified as one of the lieutenants. The guy on the right is fading.
Thematrian1 (10:27:19 PM): who he?
Umbrafer (10:27:46 PM): You don't know. Glitch saw him at the shop, but he looked like random muscle.
MilesMk1 (10:28:11 PM): Well, I don't care about the mage, so I'll actually try to save the fading guy, maybe we can get some answers out of him.
Umbrafer (10:28:24 PM): Roll it.
MilesMk1 (10:28:36 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 2 5 6 1 2 3 1 4
MilesMk1 (10:28:40 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 5
Umbrafer (10:28:49 PM): Wow
Umbrafer (10:29:04 PM): *Checks the table*
MilesMk1 (10:29:32 PM): If these are only Bad conditions, not terrible, I made it.
MilesMk1 (10:29:36 PM): I think.
Umbrafer (10:29:38 PM): That does it. He's stabilized for the moment, but he's still missing large chunks of his stomach and side.
MilesMk1 (10:29:50 PM): Damn it...
Umbrafer (10:30:00 PM): You figure he'll probably die in a few hours without major surgery, but he's good until then.
Umbrafer (10:30:06 PM): For very small values of "good"
MilesMk1 (10:30:19 PM): But he probably won't regain consciousness, right?
MilesMk1 (10:30:35 PM): Ok, let me take care of Gem...
MilesMk1 (10:31:02 PM): Oh, also, I notify Scavengers of what happened, and ask her to provide a general overwatch. We still have those cars to check out.
MilesMk1 (10:31:13 PM): First Aid for Gem:
MilesMk1 (10:31:16 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 1 5 6 5 2 5 3 5
Thematrian1 (10:31:18 PM): ::lies there::
Umbrafer (10:31:19 PM): Not on his own, probably not.
MilesMk1 (10:31:23 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 5
MilesMk1 (10:31:30 PM): Got it. Reduced to M.
Thematrian1 (10:31:37 PM): "You're a prince, Glitch."
MilesMk1 (10:31:46 PM): "You're welcome."
Umbrafer (10:32:03 PM): (Just barely, too. That Patient Is Awakened modifier really hurts.)
MilesMk1 (10:32:15 PM): (Right.)
MilesMk1 (10:32:25 PM): (I guess I needed a better roll than I thought.)
Thematrian1 (10:32:25 PM): (Indeed)
Umbrafer (10:32:45 PM): I'm not entirely clear on how Glitch applied first aid to your aura, but he did somehow.
Umbrafer (10:32:51 PM): His First Aid skills are just that good.
Thematrian1 (10:32:59 PM): ?
Umbrafer (10:33:19 PM): All of your damage was from Astral Combat. I'm poking fun at the fact that he was able to heal part of it with a medkit.
MilesMk1 (10:33:27 PM): Ok... I check the bodies of the two guys for things resembling car keys, car alarm remotes, credsticks, phones, optical chips, and anything else that could be helpful.
Thematrian1 (10:33:31 PM): well, it'll have physical ramifications
MilesMk1 (10:33:54 PM): I personally, found it very amusing and appropriate. Can I have some Karma now?
MilesMk1 (10:34:27 PM): (Damn it... Dumpshock is still busted.)
Thematrian1 (10:34:38 PM): (Busted again; I was there earlier this afternoon)
Umbrafer (10:34:52 PM): (It's working for me)
Umbrafer (10:35:07 PM): Not yet, run's still in progress. You find some keys on the pocket of a leg that the Water Elemental left behind.
Umbrafer (10:35:37 PM): You find another set of keys, a passcard, and a credstick on the dead lieutenant.
MilesMk1 (10:36:13 PM): "Want to go down and take a look at those cars, now?"
Thematrian1 (10:36:55 PM): (Note to self: powerful water elemental just went free)
Thematrian1 (10:36:58 PM): "No sense chasing the elemental, I guess...let's do it."
MilesMk1 (10:37:52 PM): Any weapons? I only ask if there's anyting exotic or valuable, no point in looting heavy pistols.
Umbrafer (10:38:14 PM): (Most Elementals head on home after going free, sometimes with a short detour to stomp their summoner into the ground. This one was on friendlier terms, but it's entirely possible that he'll leave once he buries the body or somethin
Umbrafer (10:38:29 PM): (Or it could have been a service—"If I die, bring my body to such and such a place")
Umbrafer (10:38:43 PM): (Which still requires them to have been on good terms, as the mage can't compel the spirit anymore after death)
Umbrafer (10:38:51 PM): (But yes, it also could be free.)
Umbrafer (10:39:01 PM): (And if it's free, it probably remembers who killed its master.)
MilesMk1 (10:39:17 PM): After that, I head down to the cars, and try to figure out if the stuff I found is useful for bypassing car security - if I have the key, will it turn off the system, or do I need something else, like a remote?
Thematrian1 (10:39:40 PM): Let's take the ramps when we head downstairs
MilesMk1 (10:39:40 PM): (How good are elementals at making sense of grenade launchers? ;))
MilesMk1 (10:39:44 PM): Agreed.
MilesMk1 (10:40:40 PM): (I guess this is the first enemy I accumulated that's a free spirit.)
MilesMk1 (10:40:53 PM): (Need to start learning how to use a staff...)
Umbrafer (10:41:02 PM): Both aforementioned keys have remotes with them. Perhaps more accurately, they are integrated with remotes—the "keys" look a lot more like something you'd plug into a modern USB port than our current keys.
MilesMk1 (10:41:02 PM): Oh yeah, one last thing... First Aid on myself.
Thematrian1 (10:41:09 PM): (Just carry one. Willpower attacks FTW)
MilesMk1 (10:41:11 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 5 1 2 3 1 4 6 1
MilesMk1 (10:41:14 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 2
MilesMk1 (10:41:15 PM): Done.
Thematrian1 (10:41:18 PM): (It'll at least be a start)
MilesMk1 (10:41:40 PM): (True. It's what I meant, I forgot I need no actual skill with it just for spirits.)
MilesMk1 (10:41:52 PM): I am healed.
Thematrian1 (10:42:19 PM): (Well, when you get attacked, as you've pointed out)
Umbrafer (10:42:34 PM): (In theory, you could take a twenty-foot pole into the Chicago Containment Zone and be invincible. Reach is roughly a point per meter, that should get you Reach 6 or so easily.)
MilesMk1 (10:43:03 PM): (Heh... Well, on attack, anyway. Though I suppose the reach would cancel out defaulting penalties...)
MilesMk1 (10:43:38 PM): (You know, Pusher could do scary things with a smartlinked Heavy Weapon, defaulting to his str of 21)
MilesMk1 (10:43:48 PM): Ok, so on to cars.
Umbrafer (10:44:00 PM): (He'd still need to keep the base TN below 8, but yeah)
Umbrafer (10:44:10 PM): You stroll back on down. Just walking down the ramps?
Thematrian1 (10:44:15 PM): Let's split up
Thematrian1 (10:44:23 PM): Glitch and I down the ramps, Pusher down the holes
Umbrafer (10:44:31 PM): Let's get an INT test from the both of you, then.
Thematrian1 (10:44:35 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 6 6 1 5 4 2
Thematrian1 (10:44:38 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 2 1
Thematrian1 (10:44:48 PM): 6 5 3 2 after mods
MilesMk1 (10:45:24 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 5 4 3 5 3 5 6 1
MilesMk1 (10:45:29 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 2
MilesMk1 (10:45:38 PM): Lets hope quantity matters here...
Umbrafer (10:45:55 PM): (It does, I'm still making my push towards that)
Umbrafer (10:46:19 PM): Ok. You stroll on down the first ramp unchallenged, circle around, and stroll down the second.
Umbrafer (10:46:28 PM): Pusher beats you to the bottom by a significant margin.
Thematrian1 (10:46:34 PM): yeah
Thematrian1 (10:46:38 PM): oh
Thematrian1 (10:46:41 PM): astral perception back on
Umbrafer (10:46:43 PM): You're strolling down the third ramp with the barricade at the bottom. Perception.
Thematrian1 (10:46:48 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 6 4 3 5 2
Thematrian1 (10:46:50 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
MilesMk1 (10:46:52 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 1 2 1 6 6 2
Thematrian1 (10:46:55 PM): 8 3 3 with mods
MilesMk1 (10:46:55 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 6 5
MilesMk1 (10:46:59 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 4
MilesMk1 (10:47:02 PM): 16, 11
Umbrafer (10:47:41 PM): Glitch notices a small round object at the bottom of the ramp.
MilesMk1 (10:48:39 PM): Glitch quickly pulls Gem back and up the ramp.
MilesMk1 (10:48:48 PM): Away from the object.
Umbrafer (10:48:48 PM): *Yank*
MilesMk1 (10:48:55 PM): #Grenade!#
Umbrafer (10:49:07 PM): Sorry.
Umbrafer (10:49:12 PM): A small disc-shaped object.
Umbrafer (10:49:20 PM): Not spherical.
MilesMk1 (10:49:45 PM): *Glitch stops, looking slightly embarassed, and zooms in on the object*
Umbrafer (10:50:32 PM): Perception.
MilesMk1 (10:50:38 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 6 1 3 6 5 1
MilesMk1 (10:50:44 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 3
Umbrafer (10:51:15 PM): And now Demolitions, if available.
MilesMk1 (10:51:24 PM): I can slot it in.
MilesMk1 (10:51:29 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 3 5 1 4 2 4 5 2
MilesMk1 (10:51:51 PM): Well, have the jukebox do it, I mean. Gotta love DNI.
Umbrafer (10:52:06 PM): Looks like a mine, recent-model.
Thematrian1 (10:52:16 PM): !
Thematrian1 (10:52:26 PM): and here I was going to go pick up the OMC...
MilesMk1 (10:52:37 PM): "The bastards. They left a mine."
MilesMk1 (10:52:46 PM): "Good thing we didn't go up the ramp."
MilesMk1 (10:53:00 PM): Do I have any idea how to disarm it / disable it?
Thematrian1 (10:53:01 PM): "That could have been rough, yeah."
Thematrian1 (10:53:09 PM): well, having seen it we can step around it, right?
Thematrian1 (10:53:15 PM): I mean, they did
MilesMk1 (10:53:21 PM): Well, it could have a motion sensor or something.
MilesMk1 (10:53:35 PM): And they could have dropped it behind them, and it armed after a delay.
Thematrian1 (10:53:41 PM): yeah, good point
Umbrafer (10:53:44 PM): Recent mines can be set to do fun things like… yeah, arm after a delay.
MilesMk1 (10:53:59 PM): Deadly radius?
MilesMk1 (10:54:31 PM): I guess I'll just go up the ramp (taking Gem with me), aim my gun from cover, and shoot the damn thing.
Umbrafer (10:54:44 PM): ~10 meters, though those estimates tend to be conservative with their definition of "deadly"—a well-armored individual will usually do better at that range.
MilesMk1 (10:55:04 PM): Ok. I back up sufficiently, and set it off with a shot.
MilesMk1 (10:55:13 PM): I don't need a mine badly enough to try disarming it...
Thematrian1 (10:55:19 PM): I stand 20 meters away
Thematrian1 (10:55:21 PM): just so we're clear
MilesMk1 (10:55:29 PM): I do it from cover, preferably.
MilesMk1 (10:56:04 PM): #Pusher, they left a mine for us, so just back up to the hole, and I'll get rid of it. Don't worry if you hear a blast.#
MilesMk1 (10:56:26 PM): "...unless it's followed by my screaming."
Thematrian1 (10:56:35 PM): ::giggle::
Umbrafer (10:57:00 PM): You take cover at the top of the ramp. It's a bit less than 20 meters, but this way you're almost entirely behind cover.
MilesMk1 (10:57:14 PM): I assume I can hit it at will if I aim, right?
Umbrafer (10:57:17 PM): (Or you can stand in the mostly-open further away, but I think I can guess your choice :) )
Thematrian1 (10:57:29 PM): (Um, yeah)
Umbrafer (10:57:39 PM): Yeah. Were you in the Chicago Containment Zone or someplace like that I might make you roll to see if you waste ammo, but no need here.
MilesMk1 (10:58:11 PM): (This is the second time I did something like this. Last time was when I put that improvised charge on the door during our first run.)
Umbrafer (10:58:58 PM): *Plink* *Boom*
Umbrafer (10:59:29 PM): From the looks of the blast, the lethal range was probably significantly less than ten meters. You wonder if the brochures lied.
MilesMk1 (11:00:54 PM): Better safe than singed.
MilesMk1 (11:01:09 PM): Ok... Go to the cars, looking for more gifts along the way.
MilesMk1 (11:01:13 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 2 3 1 3 5
MilesMk1 (11:01:46 PM): I wonder if we finally failed our first run...
Umbrafer (11:01:50 PM): You see no traps.
MilesMk1 (11:02:04 PM): If the guy isn't in one of the cars, we probably totally alerted them.
MilesMk1 (11:02:24 PM): And have no pople to interrogate, thanks to my trigger-happy escapades.
Thematrian1 (11:02:42 PM): no, that was necessary
Thematrian1 (11:02:47 PM): they'd have gotten away otherwise
MilesMk1 (11:02:49 PM): I approach the cars, and use the keys to disable the security/
MilesMk1 (11:02:52 PM): Well, yes.
MilesMk1 (11:03:17 PM): Though arguably, I could have used a pistol... Ah well.
Thematrian1 (11:03:33 PM): Risky; they had the darkness
MilesMk1 (11:03:55 PM): True.
Umbrafer (11:04:07 PM): From the corner out: #1 is the apparently unprotected one. #2 makes your hair stand on end. #3 just feels wrong, though you can't place how.
Thematrian1 (11:04:16 PM): I go check out Car #3
Thematrian1 (11:04:22 PM): in an astral state of mind
Umbrafer (11:04:41 PM): Astrally it's pretty clean.
MilesMk1 (11:04:48 PM): Ok... I try the remotes. (after Gem does her thing, in case pressing the wrong button makes things explode)
Umbrafer (11:05:07 PM): The keys open cars one and three.
MilesMk1 (11:05:44 PM): Huh... Ok, so after I disable security on car #3, can I tell what it was? Do I still get that feeling of wrongness?
Umbrafer (11:07:06 PM): You assume the security is disabled, the car does the whole making-noise-and-lights-flashing routine that usually accompanies unlocking
Umbrafer (11:07:16 PM): It doesn't feel any different from before.
Umbrafer (11:08:41 PM): Are you opening the door?
MilesMk1 (11:08:57 PM): Can I take another look, to see if I can track down the reason for my unease?
MilesMk1 (11:09:14 PM): I'd like to take a look under it, if necessary. (without touching anything)
Umbrafer (11:09:51 PM): Roll it.
MilesMk1 (11:09:56 PM): "I don't like this thing..."
MilesMk1 (11:09:59 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 1 4 6 2 5 6 3 4
MilesMk1 (11:10:05 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 4
Thematrian1 (11:10:08 PM): Hey, I get the same feeling of wrongness, right?
MilesMk1 (11:10:11 PM): Gah.
Thematrian1 (11:10:14 PM): "Well, search the other one first..."
Umbrafer (11:10:46 PM): You don't. You haven't looked at the car, though.
Umbrafer (11:11:07 PM): (Not in any exhaustive way)
Thematrian1 (11:11:54 PM): Ok. I go over and look at it
Umbrafer (11:12:08 PM): Electronics?
Thematrian1 (11:12:28 PM): haha, no. Just with my eyes
Umbrafer (11:13:03 PM): Perception.
Thematrian1 (11:13:13 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 3 1 2 5 5
Thematrian1 (11:13:17 PM): uh...2 after mods
Thematrian1 (11:13:21 PM): wait, no
Thematrian1 (11:13:22 PM): 3!
Umbrafer (11:13:53 PM): Pretty ordinary car.
Umbrafer (11:13:59 PM): Relatively nice.
Thematrian1 (11:14:00 PM): durrr
Thematrian1 (11:14:06 PM): "What's wrong with it?"
MilesMk1 (11:14:21 PM): "I guess nothing... Stand back, just in case."
MilesMk1 (11:14:33 PM): I draw my gun, and open the door.
MilesMk1 (11:14:54 PM): Assuming my new check yielded nothing.
Umbrafer (11:15:54 PM): Nothing new.
Umbrafer (11:16:17 PM): You open the car. There's a muffled *WHUMP* from the trunk.
MilesMk1 (11:16:42 PM): I back away in case there's now a gas spreading out...
MilesMk1 (11:16:49 PM): Motioning for Gem to do the same.
Thematrian1 (11:17:04 PM): Aw dammit
Thematrian1 (11:17:09 PM): someone destroyed the evidence
Thematrian1 (11:17:15 PM): I back away
Umbrafer (11:18:07 PM): After a few seconds some smoke does rise out of the trunk, but not much else apparent happens.
MilesMk1 (11:18:21 PM): Damnation... Ok, I examine the car.
MilesMk1 (11:18:30 PM): And try to find out how it was wired.
Umbrafer (11:19:11 PM): Roll it.
MilesMk1 (11:19:18 PM): Electronics.
MilesMk1 (11:19:21 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 8 6-sided dice: 6 1 2 4 1 6 4 5
MilesMk1 (11:19:25 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 4 5
Umbrafer (11:20:40 PM): There's a small box near the door that appears to have also had some small amount of explosives in it that connects to devices near all of the doors and windows, as well as the windshield. It then leads back to the trunk.
Umbrafer (11:21:04 PM): The intended method of bypass is not immediately obvious, though it is wired into the same (small) antenna that receives the remote's signal
Umbrafer (11:21:19 PM): It probably was waiting for a more complicated signal along those lines.
MilesMk1 (11:21:24 PM): Mhmm.
MilesMk1 (11:21:31 PM): And what seems to have been damaged?
MilesMk1 (11:21:59 PM): I open the trunk as well. (using the lever/button inside, not the key).
Umbrafer (11:22:33 PM): You do so. There's some scattered debris, a mangled briefcase, and what looks like a blown-apart pile of… dirt?
Umbrafer (11:22:52 PM): Perception.
MilesMk1 (11:23:11 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 3 6 3 5 3
MilesMk1 (11:23:15 PM): MilesMk1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
Umbrafer (11:24:01 PM): You also spot a damaged and somewhat shriveled finger.
MilesMk1 (11:24:12 PM): I have demolitions and biotech if either could apply.
Umbrafer (11:24:23 PM): It looks to have been attached to a hand fairly recently.
Umbrafer (11:24:34 PM): Not to a living hand, mind you.
Umbrafer (11:24:42 PM): Your guess is that it was blown off in the explosion just now.
Thematrian1 (11:25:23 PM): is it astrally horrific?
MilesMk1 (11:25:26 PM): "These are some seriously screwed up people. They had a booby-trapped hand in the trunk."
Umbrafer (11:25:32 PM): It is astrally iffy, but not horrific.
Umbrafer (11:25:46 PM): It shows a medium-strong background count
MilesMk1 (11:25:50 PM): So the "dirt" is what's left of the rest of the hand?
Umbrafer (11:25:53 PM): But the kind associated with strong magic, not strong emotion or violence.
Umbrafer (11:25:58 PM): No, the dirt is dirt.
MilesMk1 (11:26:17 PM): I let Gem look at the weird magical stuff, and try to sift through the debris and the briefcase.
Thematrian1 (11:26:22 PM): I grab it.
Umbrafer (11:26:27 PM): Looks fairly rich, too. If you have a potted plant, you might want to consider bringing some back with you.
Thematrian1 (11:26:29 PM): belay that
Thematrian1 (11:26:33 PM): I assense it
Umbrafer (11:26:37 PM): Hehehe
Thematrian1 (11:26:38 PM): then I grab it, maybe
Thematrian1 (11:26:40 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 2 3 5 3 1 5
Thematrian1 (11:26:51 PM): uh...zero successes
Thematrian1 (11:26:53 PM): again at +2?
Umbrafer (11:27:00 PM): Sure
Thematrian1 (11:27:04 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 1 6 3 6 3 3
Thematrian1 (11:27:07 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 2 6-sided dice: 5 1
Thematrian1 (11:27:14 PM): hah. One success, assuming no other mods
Thematrian1 (11:27:20 PM): probably even with other mods
Umbrafer (11:28:55 PM): The briefcase, heavily locked, appears to have had yet another explosive inside it. It is now bulged outwards and easily opened, if you desire to.
MilesMk1 (11:30:17 PM): I do.
Thematrian1 (11:30:28 PM): "There's a strong sense of hope attached to this briefcase."
MilesMk1 (11:30:51 PM): "Someone will have to get used to disappointment, then..."
MilesMk1 (11:31:36 PM): "Damn it, I hate this sort of thing. Just no way of telling the charges were there from the outside."
MilesMk1 (11:31:56 PM): "If I'd had a few hours and all my gear..."
Thematrian1 (11:32:10 PM): "It couldn't be helped. Let's see what it contained..."
MilesMk1 (11:32:18 PM): *examines the contents of the briefcase*
Umbrafer (11:32:41 PM): The contents are pretty much totally destroyed, but appear to have once been a very large amount of paper and some OMCs.
MilesMk1 (11:32:57 PM): Shredded, or burned?
Umbrafer (11:33:17 PM): Mostly burned.
MilesMk1 (11:33:32 PM): I guess there's always a slim chance we'll make something of it... I'll sift it for anything undamaged later. These things are rarely perfect...
MilesMk1 (11:33:56 PM): What about the other debris inside the trunk? Anything besides the briefacase and the weird magical junk?
Thematrian1 (11:34:08 PM): I assense the stuff in the briefcase
Umbrafer (11:34:10 PM): Not inside the trunk, no.
Thematrian1 (11:34:11 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 4 3 2 2 2
Thematrian1 (11:34:14 PM): and again
Thematrian1 (11:34:17 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 4 6 6 6 2 6
Thematrian1 (11:34:20 PM): Thematrian1 rolled 4 6-sided dice: 3 1 4 1
Thematrian1 (11:34:29 PM): 2 successes
MilesMk1 (11:34:45 PM): While Gem assenses, I search the rest of the car. Under the seats, behind visors, glove compartment, and whatever else Glitch can think of.
Thematrian1 (11:36:15 PM): "Hmm...the mage did something here. Wish I could figure out what..."
MilesMk1 (11:38:10 PM): "Did it have something to do with whatever's behind that tarp?"
MilesMk1 (11:38:22 PM): "I suppose we have the time to deal with it now... If you think it wise."
MilesMk1 (11:38:28 PM): *rummages through the car*
CirclMastr has entered the chat room.
CirclMastr (11:38:35 PM): (Wow, game still going on?)
MilesMk1 (11:39:03 PM): (Yes. We have conquered. The immediate opposition, anyway.)
CirclMastr (11:39:46 PM): (Sweet)
Thematrian1 (11:40:12 PM): (We're a bit short on evidence though)
MilesMk1 (11:40:21 PM): (Or our actual target.)
Umbrafer (11:40:29 PM): (They killed all the witnesses)
MilesMk1 (11:40:32 PM): (But we're discovering more and more puzzling occult crap.)
MilesMk1 (11:40:43 PM): (Not all.)
CirclMastr (11:40:44 PM): (Let Pusher smash the building?)
Umbrafer (11:40:45 PM): (Well, not quite)
Umbrafer (11:40:58 PM): (There's still one lying upstairs with half his stomach missing)
MilesMk1 (11:41:17 PM): (Hey... I have a level 2 surgeon contact... He might make it.)
Thematrian1 (11:41:30 PM): (That's a thought. If so, we have to hurry, and I want to check out the tarp."
MilesMk1 (11:42:44 PM): Ok... Well, in that case, I will look for signs of similar security systems on other cars, disable the shock system (noisily, I don't care about noise anymore) and we can search them.
MilesMk1 (11:42:53 PM): I assume there's nothing else in this one?
Umbrafer (11:43:26 PM): In the main cab, there's a pocket secretary, and a half-drunk can of Aztecola.
CirclMastr (11:43:30 PM): (Anyone know what time it is? In-game that is)
Umbrafer (11:43:36 PM): There's also a bag.
Umbrafer (11:43:48 PM): (I've completely lost track.)
CirclMastr (11:44:20 PM): (Well phooey on you. It's important.)
Umbrafer (11:44:36 PM): (It is indeed.)
Umbrafer (11:44:46 PM): (IIRC you've already watched NNN for the day, though)
CirclMastr (11:44:57 PM): (No, we started around 11 or 12)
Umbrafer (11:45:09 PM): (AM? PM?)
CirclMastr (11:45:19 PM): (Around midday)
Umbrafer (11:45:35 PM): (And by "started"… that was when you went to the shop?)
MilesMk1 (11:45:47 PM): Ok... I take the pocsec, and the bag. What's in it?
CirclMastr (11:46:03 PM): (That's when they arrived at the first place, before the car chase thing)
Umbrafer (11:47:28 PM): The bag is filled with papers. They appear to be primarily partly-graded assignments, as well as a few paper guidelines for the Summer term at a Seattle university whose name has completely slipped my mind.
Umbrafer (11:47:42 PM): (So it's probably getting on 3:00 now)
CirclMastr (11:48:24 PM): *taps Gem*
MilesMk1 (11:48:52 PM): ...
MilesMk1 (11:48:59 PM): "Weird. College papers."
Thematrian1 (11:49:01 PM): ::rocks backward gently::
CirclMastr (11:49:17 PM): "...." *taps again* "We need to go."
Umbrafer (11:49:25 PM): There's also a large binder full of paper contained within.
Thematrian1 (11:49:37 PM): "Do we now?"
MilesMk1 (11:49:38 PM): I will examine it all later...
CirclMastr (11:49:54 PM): "Yes, now."
MilesMk1 (11:49:55 PM): I do what I can to make sure the other cars are safe, and look in there as well.
MilesMk1 (11:50:17 PM): inside them
Umbrafer (11:51:27 PM): You do so. The most noisy, fast, and reliable way of disabling the shock system is to bash the hood with an insulated sledgehammer until the electrical system shuts down. Car #1 looks safe, just as it has thus far.
MilesMk1 (11:52:28 PM): Hmm... Well, I get the closest thing to an insulated sledgehammer, and pound away.
MilesMk1 (11:52:43 PM): I assume my shock gloves actually work as insulation, right? (they'd kind of have to)
CirclMastr (11:53:11 PM): *taps again* "We have to go NOW!"
Umbrafer (11:53:25 PM): (Since it's important, the exact time is 2:42)
Thematrian1 (11:53:27 PM): "No, we don't. We have to steal these cars."
Umbrafer (11:53:46 PM): It would, though you'd have to get uncomfortably close. You could probably get Pusher to get you a piece of rebar, possibly with a nice heavy chunk of concrete on the end.
MilesMk1 (11:53:47 PM): *bang* "Why do we have to go?" *bang*
Umbrafer (11:54:09 PM): Or use one of the assault rifles that the dead people dropped.
MilesMk1 (11:54:10 PM): I meant, if I get something to pound with, the gloves will provide insulation.
MilesMk1 (11:54:22 PM): I intended to use somethign longer.
Umbrafer (11:54:25 PM): Oh. Yeah.
CirclMastr (11:54:35 PM): "No, we HAVE to go NOW! I'm gonna MISS IT!"
Umbrafer (11:54:36 PM): They ought to.
Thematrian1 (11:55:23 PM): "So far, today, you've been hitting things just fine."
CirclMastr (11:55:48 PM): "I'm gonna MISS IT! We gotta go NOW!"
MilesMk1 (11:55:51 PM): *bang* "Miss what...? Pusher, please calm down and explain." *bang, bang*
CirclMastr (11:55:56 PM): *looks around for the exit*
Umbrafer (11:56:07 PM): There's a large hole immediately above your head.
MilesMk1 (11:56:15 PM): Hey, is one of the cars pimped-out, with a trid set?
CirclMastr (11:56:20 PM): "Neko Nanny Nina! I'm gonna miss it!" *tries to get back up the hole*
MilesMk1 (11:56:32 PM): "What time is it on?"
Umbrafer (11:56:42 PM): No, there is no pimping. To everyone's dismay.
CirclMastr (11:57:17 PM): "Three, two central!" *parroting the commercials/show*
MilesMk1 (11:57:46 PM): #Scavs, do you get trid broadcasts in your van?#
CirclMastr (11:57:57 PM): *keeps trying to get up the hole*
MilesMk1 (11:58:11 PM): #If you do, we might be able to avoid... Well, I'd really rather not find out.#
Umbrafer (11:58:12 PM): #[Ksssssht]o yo[ksssht]#
Thematrian1 (11:58:34 PM): "How about if I go up there and find out what's going on?"
MilesMk1 (11:58:46 PM): "Probably a good idea..."
Thematrian1 (11:59:03 PM): "Pusher, come with me. We're going to visit Scavengers."
CirclMastr (11:59:14 PM): "I'm gonna miss the show!"
MilesMk1 (12:01:04 AM): "Unless you plan on walking, you need to get to Scavenger's van anyway."
Thematrian1 has left the chat room.
CirclMastr (12:02:31 AM): (Am I just impotently leaping at the hole?)
Umbrafer (12:03:04 AM): (It's pretty easy to climb up the hole. If you choose to, you do.)
Umbrafer (12:03:11 AM): (There's another one in the floor above, at a small offset.)
CirclMastr (12:03:16 AM): (I've said it at least three times now)
Umbrafer (12:03:21 AM): (Sorry)
Umbrafer (12:03:46 AM): (Well, there are three holes. Going up all of them?)
Thematrian1 is not online, and therefore cannot chat.
CirclMastr (12:04:12 AM): (As much as it takes to get back to the van)
Thematrian1 has entered the chat room.
Umbrafer (12:05:11 AM): (You go up three holes and start the trek back to the van.)
Thematrian1 (12:05:42 AM): trek trek trek
Umbrafer (12:06:14 AM): Meanwhile, Glitch finally bludgeons the car into submission.
CirclMastr (12:06:15 AM): *treks as fast as possible*
Umbrafer (12:06:26 AM): The system buzzes a few times, then flickers and is silent.
MilesMk1 (12:06:54 AM): Again, with my gun ready, I open the car.
Umbrafer (12:07:46 AM): *Open*
MilesMk1 (12:08:01 AM): Anyone / anything inside?
Umbrafer (12:08:28 AM): This car has been largely stripped out. It consists of a bunch of spare batteries, fortunately all leading forward to under the hood, and a stockpile of food and water.
Umbrafer (12:09:46 AM): There is also a note.
MilesMk1 (12:10:00 AM): Ah. And what does it say?
Umbrafer (12:10:03 AM): It is pasted on the dashboard. At the top, neatly written:
Umbrafer (12:10:13 AM): "STAY AWAY FROM THE TARP"
MilesMk1 (12:10:53 AM): #The only thing in here are some batteries, food and water, and a note that says 'Stay Away From The Tarp'.#
Thematrian1 (12:11:02 AM): #Now we have to mess with it#
MilesMk1 (12:11:18 AM): Nothing in the trunk? No place someone might be hiding?
Umbrafer (12:11:28 AM): Down near the bottom, scrawled: "when you get back, set up the barricades. someone's after the boss, they may tail us."
Umbrafer (12:11:34 AM): It is dated four days ago.
Umbrafer (12:11:37 AM): Opening the trunk?
Thematrian1 (12:12:34 AM): (Yes!)
MilesMk1 (12:12:37 AM): Yes.
Umbrafer (12:13:05 AM): Guns. Lots of guns and a few boxes of ammo.
MilesMk1 (12:13:16 AM): Neat.
MilesMk1 (12:13:30 AM): Guns are always good.
MilesMk1 (12:13:32 AM): Last car>
MilesMk1 (12:13:33 AM): ?
Umbrafer (12:13:39 AM): Also, a small burlap sack
MilesMk1 (12:13:44 AM): And in it?
CirclMastr (12:14:08 AM): ...So, do we make it to Scav's van?
Umbrafer (12:14:17 AM): You're walking. It's a decent distance.
Umbrafer (12:14:47 AM): About a dozen mini-mines similar to the one you blew up on the ramp. They lack the power or killing radius of the real thing, but they're significantly more portable and deployable.
Umbrafer (12:14:57 AM): The models are mixed.
CirclMastr (12:15:10 AM): Pusher is jogging/running, assuming he knows the way
Thematrian1 (12:15:29 AM): Gem gets left behind
CirclMastr (12:15:49 AM): Pusher would be dragging/carrying her then.
Umbrafer (12:16:24 AM): (Like Snoog with Kitsune, but larger.)
Thematrian1 (12:16:31 AM): Gem suffers in silence
Umbrafer (12:16:54 AM): You open the last car. The glove compartment isn't entirely closed on this one.
MilesMk1 (12:17:01 AM): You mean she's not riding piggyback, going "Whee!" periodically? :)
Thematrian1 (12:17:17 AM): The best she can manage is "Whrgl"
Umbrafer (12:17:30 AM): Opening it?
MilesMk1 (12:17:48 AM): I'll examine it first for boobytraps.
Umbrafer (12:18:01 AM): Roll it.
MilesMk1 (12:18:03 AM): Perception? Demolition?
Thematrian1 has left the chat room.
Umbrafer (12:19:11 AM): Perception, probably.
MilesMk1 (12:19:15 AM): MilesMk1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 5 4 4 1 4 4
Umbrafer (12:19:24 AM): You find no traps.
Thematrian1 has entered the chat room.
MilesMk1 (12:19:30 AM): I open it.
Umbrafer (12:19:33 AM): Pusher: where the van should be looms into sight.
Thematrian1 (12:19:41 AM): uh
Umbrafer (12:19:45 AM): The van, unfortunately, does not do so much looming.
Thematrian1 (12:19:46 AM): not liking the phrasing there
Thematrian1 (12:19:52 AM): #Scavengers, where are you?#
Umbrafer (12:20:12 AM): You find two keys.
Umbrafer (12:20:17 AM): And a vehicle registration.
Umbrafer (12:20:20 AM): Probably fake.
MilesMk1 (12:21:07 AM): Are they keys car-keys?
Umbrafer (12:21:18 AM): One is.
MilesMk1 (12:21:29 AM): Does it seem to be for one of the cars here?
Umbrafer (12:21:30 AM): The other is a bulky electronic key of the sort that might go to a safe.
MilesMk1 (12:21:40 AM): Oooh...
Umbrafer (12:21:41 AM): Hard to tell. Going to press the remote?
MilesMk1 (12:21:54 AM): Yes. But I'll step well back from any of the cars first.
Umbrafer (12:22:33 AM): The bashed-in car #2 gives a weak squawk, then falls silent.
CirclMastr (12:22:55 AM): "Where's the vaaaan, I'm gonna miss the SHOW!"
Thematrian1 (12:23:15 AM): #Scavengers, report#
Umbrafer (12:23:43 AM): #*Silence*#
Umbrafer (12:23:54 AM): Perception.
Thematrian1 (12:23:57 AM): Thematrian1 rolled 6 6-sided dice: 3 2 4 2 5 6
Thematrian1 (12:24:00 AM): Thematrian1 rolled 1 6-sided die: 3
CirclMastr (12:24:04 AM): CirclMastr rolled 1 6-sided die: 6
CirclMastr (12:24:06 AM): CirclMastr rolled 1 6-sided die: 6
CirclMastr (12:24:07 AM): CirclMastr rolled 1 6-sided die: 5
CirclMastr (12:24:10 AM): 17!
Thematrian1 (12:24:12 AM): #Glitch, we have a problem. Scavengers is nowhere in sight#
Umbrafer (12:24:14 AM): Snoog factor.
Thematrian1 (12:24:15 AM): 7 after mods
MilesMk1 (12:24:28 AM): #Shit... Let me see if I can get one of these running.#
Umbrafer (12:24:31 AM): You see something attached to a nearby wall.
Thematrian1 (12:24:42 AM): both of us?
MilesMk1 (12:24:45 AM): ("If you want your rigger back...")
Umbrafer (12:24:53 AM): (Yes.)
Thematrian1 (12:25:03 AM): I go investigate. What is it?
MilesMk1 (12:25:25 AM): I set about getting the guns into a running car, and getting it ready to go.
Thematrian1 (12:25:37 AM): #Found something...#
MilesMk1 (12:25:52 AM): #Doesn't sound good...#
Umbrafer (12:26:12 AM): There's a large smear of blood on the ground, and there's a large bee-drone clinging to a wall. It has a… I suppose you'd call it a stinger, it has a stinger extended that's longer than your forearm and is currently skewering
Umbrafer (12:26:20 AM): a man you don't recognize, pinning him to the wall.
Umbrafer (12:26:30 AM): He's quite dead, and the drone isn't moving.
Umbrafer (12:26:41 AM): You recognize the drone as what Scavengers called a "Queen Bee".
Thematrian1 (12:26:52 AM): #Looks like she got jumped. There's a dead guy attached to the wall, along with one of her queen bees.#
Umbrafer (12:27:22 AM): The bee shows no visible signs of damage. Its faceted eyes glare malevolently at the dead man.
CirclMastr (12:27:29 AM): (Time?)
Umbrafer (12:27:38 AM): 2:54
Thematrian1 (12:27:55 AM): "Hey, bee. I need to find your mistress."
CirclMastr (12:27:59 AM): "Come onnnnn, where's the VAAAAAN? I'm gonna MISS IT!"
Umbrafer (12:28:12 AM): Bee: *unmoving silence*
Thematrian1 (12:28:21 AM): "Doing our collective best, Pusher"
MilesMk1 (12:28:25 AM): #Damnation. Any signs of the van? Pieces?#
Umbrafer (12:28:26 AM): You can get both non-bashed cars running.
Thematrian1 (12:28:35 AM): "The terrible thing about being a shadowrunner is that sometimes you can't watch TV"
CirclMastr (12:28:44 AM): *smashes the wall near the dead guy, just out of anger/frustration*
MilesMk1 (12:28:53 AM): Hmm. I'll take the nicer one, then.
Thematrian1 (12:29:02 AM): Hmm...
MilesMk1 (12:29:12 AM): Assuming it doesn't look like it's wired for any more explosions.
MilesMk1 (12:29:26 AM): Take all we found - including the note.
Thematrian1 (12:29:36 AM): Well, forget it for now.
MilesMk1 (12:29:40 AM): And I'll make sure to get all the guns.
Umbrafer (12:29:43 AM): That'd be the one the people came in. The one without the weird magical drek in the back.
Thematrian1 (12:29:46 AM): I hightail it back downstairs, and slot Cars
MilesMk1 (12:29:50 AM): And the mines.
Thematrian1 (12:29:53 AM): oh man, the tarp
Thematrian1 (12:29:56 AM): we need to mess with that
MilesMk1 (12:30:03 AM): I have cars. Unless you want to take two?
Thematrian1 (12:30:15 AM): yep
CirclMastr (12:30:29 AM): *smashes things until 3:00, then plops down on the ground and sulks*
MilesMk1 (12:31:14 AM): #Sorry, Pusher... We'll get you a Nina action figure, or something, ok?#
CirclMastr (12:31:46 AM): # *sullen silence* #
Umbrafer (12:31:47 AM): You slot Cars and dash to the bottom again. You've certainly gotten your exercise for the day.
Thematrian1 (12:32:26 AM): nifty. I slowly and gently follow Glitch out in whichever car he didn't steal
MilesMk1 (12:32:47 AM): That'd be car #1, I think.
MilesMk1 (12:33:01 AM): #So, are we doing anything about this tarp?#
Thematrian1 (12:33:27 AM): #I say we open it up and look inside.#
Umbrafer (12:33:35 AM): If he took the nicer one, he took #1. #3 has the weird magical drek, so it seems appropriate.
Umbrafer (12:34:28 AM): Ok. Final messing-with-tarp actions.
Thematrian1 (12:34:45 AM): Ok. It's a tarp, floor to ceiling, eats watchers
Thematrian1 (12:34:49 AM): correct so far?
MilesMk1 (12:34:51 AM): #All right... If you think it's not going to get our souls devoured...#
Umbrafer (12:35:03 AM): Correct so far, as far as you've observed.
MilesMk1 (12:35:06 AM): *helps Gem according to her requests*
Umbrafer (12:35:12 AM): The Watchers make very unpleasant noises in the process.
MilesMk1 (12:36:35 AM): Oh, and one more thing... I get and load up the wounded guy - I guess put him on the back seat, or something.
MilesMk1 (12:37:11 AM): #We need to decide whether we care enough about getting information from this guy to get him some professional help.#
Umbrafer (12:37:16 AM): You may want to put him in the less-nice car, he will be leaking unpleasant fluids all over everything.
MilesMk1 (12:37:25 AM): Sure.
MilesMk1 (12:37:34 AM): Hey, maybe we can get some use out of the tarp...
Thematrian1 (12:37:42 AM): heh
Thematrian1 (12:37:47 AM): yeah, ok, final action
Thematrian1 (12:37:56 AM): #Pusher, would you come downstairs please?#
Thematrian1 (12:38:00 AM): (That isn't it, it's setup)
MilesMk1 (12:38:19 AM): BTW, if you want to cut the tarp from a distance, you can have my laser cutter.
Umbrafer (12:38:20 AM): (Yeah, I get it :) )
Thematrian1 (12:38:41 AM): Ooh, I like that plan. How far away can I be and still laser cut things?
CirclMastr (12:39:19 AM): *sulks*
Umbrafer (12:39:27 AM): Not very. There's also the fact that with something like tarp you wouldn't so much cut it as burn it.
MilesMk1 (12:39:53 AM): At least 4 meters, but it's at -2 power then.
CirclMastr (12:39:55 AM): (brb)
Umbrafer (12:40:17 AM): Granted it'll burn faster along a line, but if it's flammable it should keep burning even after the laser moves on.
Thematrian1 (12:40:22 AM): or melt it. Whatever, I do that along the ceiling edge, or better yet cut whatever's supporting it
Umbrafer (12:41:14 AM): It's basically just hung on hooks driven into the ceiling.
Umbrafer (12:41:53 AM): Cutting the hooks or the loops around the hooks?
Thematrian1 (12:42:05 AM): loops
Umbrafer (12:43:00 AM): You cut. Cut. Cut.
Thematrian1 (12:43:11 AM): suits me fin
Thematrian1 (12:43:12 AM): e
Umbrafer (12:43:19 AM): Are you Astrally Perceiving?
Thematrian1 (12:43:23 AM): yes
Thematrian1 (12:43:26 AM): HOWEVER
Thematrian1 (12:43:38 AM): I have a readied action to turn it off if I see anything purely astral
Thematrian1 (12:43:48 AM): er
Thematrian1 (12:43:50 AM): you know what I mean
Thematrian1 (12:43:59 AM): alive, like
Umbrafer (12:44:28 AM): *Nods*
Umbrafer (12:44:37 AM): You cut through the last loop, the tarp falls to the ground.
Umbrafer (12:44:48 AM): The enchantment on the tarp vanishes.
Thematrian1 has left the chat room.
Umbrafer (12:44:59 AM): One more line and we break. ONE MORE LINE!
Umbrafer (12:45:05 AM): Such is the tyranny of routers.
Thematrian1 has entered the chat room.
Thematrian1 declined your invitation to chat.
Thematrian1 (12:45:43 AM): well?
Umbrafer (12:46:16 AM): Behind it is a shrivelled corpse hanging from a noose. You can't tell whether or not it's astrally active, as the background count shoots off the charts as you get closer to it.
Umbrafer (12:46:31 AM): And that's it for tonight. Next week, encounter with shrivelled corpse!
MilesMk1 (12:46:52 AM): Yay...
MilesMk1 (12:47:12 AM): And we still have a guy to hunt down and hurt.
Thematrian1 (12:47:42 AM): yeah, we actually failed
MilesMk1 (12:48:11 AM): I think we'll have to do away with our proud tradition of ignoring weird stuff and pressing on with the job, and actually investigate a bit.
MilesMk1 (12:48:24 AM): Well... Haven't suceeded, yet.
MilesMk1 (12:48:30 AM): We still might.
Umbrafer (12:48:33 AM): The key, as always, is figuring out what weird stuff to ignore and what to investigate.
MilesMk1 (12:48:49 AM): Mind you, our chances could be better, but we might have something here that'll lead us to him.
MilesMk1 (12:49:19 AM): Of course, our primary means of conducting recon is now gone...
CirclMastr (12:49:38 AM): (BAck)
Thematrian1 (12:49:43 AM): Yeah. Losing the rigger...sucks.
Thematrian1 (12:49:49 AM): I have a friend who I'm going to pressure into playing
Thematrian1 (12:49:50 AM): I hope
MilesMk1 (12:49:58 AM): Well, we were bound to lose one sooner or later...
Thematrian1 (12:50:21 AM): Getting him to play a rigger on his first go is probably too much to ask
MilesMk1 (12:50:33 AM): It didn't help that, as is often the case, the Johnson completely understated the level and the freakiness of the opposition...
MilesMk1 (12:50:55 AM): True.
MilesMk1 (12:51:04 AM): Well, we could always use a conventional street sam.
MilesMk1 (12:51:13 AM): That's about as easy as it gets, for a first time player.
Thematrian1 (12:51:43 AM): true
Thematrian1 (12:51:58 AM): he's in withdrawl 'cause my Gurps game's been on haitus for approximately forever
MilesMk1 (12:52:06 AM): I wonder who hit Scavengers...
MilesMk1 (12:52:23 AM): The area was bad enough it could have been unrelated, but somehow I don't think so.
Umbrafer (12:52:29 AM): Get him to play a Riggerdecker then.
MilesMk1 (12:53:00 AM): Heh.
Umbrafer (12:53:16 AM): We could have another Riggerdeckerconjurer in the party ;)
MilesMk1 (12:53:22 AM): Well, I guess we have our work cut out for us...
Thematrian1 (12:53:34 AM): Or a sorcerer. That was my first character
MilesMk1 (12:53:38 AM): We need to move quickly before this guy skips town, and see about this weird stuff...
Thematrian1 (12:53:42 AM): definitely
Umbrafer (12:53:43 AM): Gem needs to initiate a few times and then dump two more points of Essence. They're holding her back.
Thematrian1 (12:53:51 AM): true dat
MilesMk1 (12:54:03 AM): Holding her back???
CirclMastr (12:54:13 AM): I fee lsad.
CirclMastr (12:54:16 AM): *feel sad.
Thematrian1 (12:54:20 AM): from having goodies like VCR
MilesMk1 (12:54:21 AM): Oh, right.
Umbrafer (12:54:32 AM): Yeah, someone needs to buy Pusher a portable TV.
MilesMk1 (12:54:36 AM): Well, she should have been able to initiate already, no? Or at least be close...
Umbrafer (12:54:51 AM): (Figures that you go running in the middle of the day just after he joins the team)
Thematrian1 (12:55:10 AM): If I can just join a group, yeah
Thematrian1 (12:55:20 AM): but I can't even meet with the groups that contacted me for another few days
MilesMk1 (12:55:23 AM): Oh, yeah.
Thematrian1 (12:55:26 AM): after this run, I'll probably initiate again
MilesMk1 (12:55:39 AM): Why do you feel sad?
Umbrafer (12:56:47 AM): Hm. The team actually did take a fairly major hit to offensive capability on this run (not counting Scavengers).
CirclMastr (12:57:07 AM): I feel sad because I'm never happy with any of my characters.
CirclMastr (12:57:25 AM): Yeah, Pusher is now useless to you all. Thanks muchly for that.
Thematrian1 (12:57:37 AM): you're welcome?
CirclMastr (12:58:00 AM): Broke his geas, so he's without Missile Mastery and Smashing Blow now.
Thematrian1 (12:58:38 AM): ah. So you're without for another 24 hours, is that right?
CirclMastr (12:59:09 AM): Assuming I can actually see NNN tomorrow, yeah. Otherwise it's another 24 hours.
Umbrafer (12:59:11 AM): (Pusher is meaningfully less versatile, but a Strength 21 Troll is rarely useless.)
CirclMastr (12:59:18 AM): *20
Umbrafer (12:59:26 AM): (Oops, yeah)
MilesMk1 (12:59:53 AM): Well, hey... It's not like any of our characters knew about that...
CirclMastr (1:00:07 AM): Yeah.
CirclMastr (1:00:23 AM): But I recall him bringing it up several times before this session.
Umbrafer (1:01:10 AM): Part of the problem here is the time disconnect between game and reality.
Umbrafer (1:01:32 AM): Pusher probably mentioned it a few hours ago in-game, but that was probably a month ago in real life
CirclMastr (1:01:42 AM): Yeah
CirclMastr (1:01:58 AM): Well, I brought it up as soon as I got here, to be fair.
MilesMk1 (1:02:15 AM): Well, yes... But also, TV shows are easy to forget about during running battles and getting engulfed by fire elementals...
CirclMastr (1:02:26 AM): So I don't feel bad about blaming J for taking away all options.
Thematrian1 (1:03:09 AM): 24 hours. It's going to take Gem much longer than that to shed her +2 to all TNs. Who knows how long until Glitch's ruthenium works as it should?
MilesMk1 (1:03:31 AM): True.
CirclMastr (1:03:35 AM): 24 hours is 24 weeks, at best, in reality.
Umbrafer (1:04:20 AM): Not if people say "we're resting for [x]"
MilesMk1 (1:04:29 AM): Meh... Price you pay for having an interesting character that's not optimally suited for shadowrunning...
MilesMk1 (1:04:47 AM): And I am seriously gimped until I get my gear working again...
MilesMk1 (1:05:29 AM): Well, it's 1:10 here... I gotta run.
CirclMastr (1:05:31 AM): So I should make a completely flat and lifeless character with insane stats, that J won't even approve?
Thematrian1 (1:05:47 AM): I'd call that a radical interpretation of the text.
Umbrafer (1:05:50 AM): (Middle ground calling…)
Thematrian1 (1:05:51 AM): Good night Matt
Thematrian1 (1:05:53 AM): see you later
MilesMk1 (1:05:54 AM): Uh... I didn't say you should make a different kind of character...
MilesMk1 (1:06:44 AM): Good night.
MilesMk1 (1:06:53 AM): See you guys Tuesday. (or on Freeciv.)
Thematrian1 (1:06:56 AM): aye
CirclMastr (1:07:00 AM): G"night
